The Acronym List

TAD Temporary Assigned Duty

TDY Temporary Duty

TEMDU Temporary Duty

There are different usages, varying by service.

Good morning, TN! In the Navy, at least, there is a critical difference between TAD and TEMDU. TEMDU allows the receiving command to both conduct Article 13 proceedings, award punishment and to administratively separate a military member. I learned this the hard way when I was a Naval Station XO. USS SEABAT would get underway on deployment, sending broken or soon-to-separate or bad actors ordered to the NAVSTA. If they sent them with simple TAD orders, my hands were tied. Made for some terse messaging to and from the ship. I never knew the difference until then.

Thank you for ensuring we have both listed; that is a major difference. TAD was already on the acronym list, so I added TEMDU. Please let me know there are any discrepancies.

As far as I know, ANG stands for Air National Guard, not "Army National Guard". Just plain "National Guard" refers to the Army

I have seen ANG and ARNG when there is a need to be very soecifyc.

ARNG has been added and ANG changed to Air National Guard. Thank you for the suggestion.

Which AIT? Were they students or staff?
Medical Equipment Repairman (Biomed Tech), AIT was at USAMEOS at Fitzsimons Army Med Ctr in Denver (Aurora). Sadly the postage stamp size post was BRAC'd. For Army, we could select the MOS as training of choice upon enlistment. Navy had being a corpsman as a pre-req. They were fellow students. All the staff were Army or civilian. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Lots of HMs wanted to do med repair back in my early days. It’s a great NEC.
