The Beast

The biggest thing:
Beast is only 6 weeks of your life. Some people love it (not many) and most hate every minute. it is less than 1 percent of your military grade at west point, so don't be upset if it doesnt turn out the way you want.

^Yes. Do not screw over your squad mates trying to get a better grade. A) it probably wont work and B) beast is a good time to star forging friendships, don't worry too much about grades.

Don't try to get a better grade?

How are the grades assigned for Beast? All performance based? How fast, how many, how far.....that kind of thing? All individual or team based. I appreciate the info. Thx.

They use forced distribution. So the grades for a platoon have to average out to around a 3.0 (+/- some). So if someone gets an A, some else is getting a C. Certain actions tend to make you look good at the cost of everyone else in your platoon. This is more about academic year than Beast though.

honestly if you just do your best, and help your classmates you'll be fine. Someone in your platoon sucks at running, stick with them and motivate. That same person might be the one pulling you over the 12 foot wall in the leaders reaction course, and teaching you calculus in August.

Just wanted to bump this thread up. For all the 2018'ers out there, feel free to ask questions and i'll do my best to answer.

Don't bother looking over the knowledge. If you memorize stuff early on, you'll isolate yourself from the majority of your squad who didn't, and you're gonna need their help to get through.

^Sage advice. Have fun with your last summer before heading off to Beast, but remember to arrive in shape (trust me on this one when I say practice doing APFTs before you get here) and ready to train. I'll actually be a Beast 1 Squad Leader for those of you who are 2018 cadet candidates by the way, so let me know if you have any questions or PM me. :thumb:

Stephanie - Can CCs wear moisture-wicking ACU undershirts (tan) during CBT?

Are electric razors allowed for cbt or do they have to use razor/shaving cream?

Depends on what the leadership decides.

It's not called The Beast. It's never been called The Beast.
