ADMISSION STRATEGY FOR ALL ACADEMIES
Look at all the academies -- the unique features and the service after graduation -- also consider ROTC along with the civilian universities you are applying to for admission Go ONLINE to the Academy Sites for details of Training, Academics, Activities, Sports Features Prepare for all of the opportunities during High School Academically, Activities, & Sports Practice the Candidate Fitness Assessment: Pullups, Pushups, B-Ball Throw, Situps, Shuttle Run, Mile run Apply for the Pre-Candidate Application Forms or complete OnLine -- You will receive more forms Apply to ALL Available Nomination Sources and complete all requirements prior to October Early Completion shows drive, desire and the ability to get things done Verify Congressional District: ZIP Plus 4 to find US Congressional District http://www.house.gov/writerep/ Take both the ACT and SAT exams several times (consider 1st Choice Academy Calculation Method) Carefully complete all Candidate File Requirements Early -- Prior to 15 November
Early Completion shows drive, desire and the ability to get things done Visit the Academy of your choice during regular academics Make an Admissions Decision that is right for you -- not: Parents, uncle, grandparents, etc

The above information & following link is provided from NC State University & I thought a very useful comparison tool for academy/Rotc applicants to be.

I just have to add here, I wish more folks took USMMA into consideration. Its the Navy's best kept secret, so they say. Although majors are limited to the maritime industry, keep in mind if an interest is in this field, that graduates have the option of going active duty or reserves in any branch of the service. It also helps by looking at page 2 of this document & noticing the salaries after graduating. Thought I'd post this here as it might help those who are looking into our country's great service academies & ROTC.

I could not agree with you more. Those of you who want a sea service check out USNA, USCGA and USMMA - lots of options for you folks. USMMA is a great school with lots of opportunities for grads.

Even if you think you are only interested in one academy - check them all out.
Those who have rising Juniors - visit this summer if you can. Investigate all summer programs for next summer as well.
Those of you who have rising Seniors - MOC's have nomination info on their websites. Have your kids get the applications now so they can get their recommendations before school gets out - saves lots of time in the fall!

ROTC - Definitely! Every admissions officer we have talked to from West Point has recommended applying for an ROTC scholarship as well.
If you want to attend an academy then you wants to serve - you should be willing to accept a different route to your commission.

ROTC applications can be done over the summer as soon as 6th semester transcripts are available.
Applying for an ROTC application got my daughter entered in DODMERB earlier and got her started on her exam. She was entered in the system on 8/10/06 and didn't get her USMA waiver until 3/8/07. She is still WAITING for her ROTC waiver - it all takes time.
Lastly - DODMERB - do eveything they ask in a timely manner. Do not sit on anything. If you have ANY question - don't hesitate to post on the DoDMERB forum. Tons of good counsel from RetNavyHM.

Me thinks these girls are preaching to the choir. Come to think of it, maybe they ARE the choir?

Thanks for posting those links Jamzmom. I thought I had read those WPP stats somewhere about a year ago but couldn't remember where. You deserve the title of Super Moderator.

Jamzmom,

Thanks for the link to the comparisons. I have never seen that and there is some great info included.
