I received my letter of acceptance into The Citadel for Mechanical Engineering. I am extremely proud of myself and if my other college options do not work out I plan to commit assuming I can win an ROTC scholarship. I have quite some time before I will matriculation but what are some things I should prepare myself between here and then? If anyone can provide insight into their experiences at The Citadel I'd be greatly appreciative. If anyone else has received acceptance please feel free to contribute.

Congratulations on your acceptance. Your preparation should be similar for other schools/ROTC programs. Make sure you continue to focus on your studies and finish your year strong. Continue a focus on physical fitness. There are some specific "Citadel" things that you can do over the summer to best prepare you for knob year.

Congratulations on being accepted. Unfortunately, due to COVID precautions, no pre-Knob overnight visits are being scheduled this Fall. There are some limited campus visits scheduled. You can find them here: https://www.citadel.edu/root/admissions-visit

However, you should contact Admissions, let them know you are an accepted applicant and would like to know if there are virtual sessions on your major within the Engineering School. They have a specific session for the engineering majors: Civil, Computer, Construction, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. As for financial aid, if you earn a national ROTC scholarship, you are eligible for the college’s Armed Forces Supplement and the Alumni Associations scholarships, as well as named scholarships that can be used towards Room & Board or other costs not covered by the ROTC scholarship. You will need to ask Financial Aid if you are eligible. The important thing - now is the time to ask your questions. The fact you have been accepted means The Citadel is willing to invest time and resources to address questions you and your parents may have.

I would like to begin with a Thank You. A Thank you for all those who have assisted me on SAF throughout the beginning of my journey in October 2020. Matter of fact, it's difficult to think I've been on SAF for 1 year, and all the advice I've received from some many of your guys. I cannot be more thankful for..

That being said; I went home today, and checked my mail to receive something from The Citadel, and hence I have received formal academic acceptance for my major of Military Intelligence and Security Studies; Fall 2022

I am estatic, as I already know of my intentions to do SMP.

Thank you guys once again!

I received my acceptance letter on Wednesday. I am so excited!

As was already mentioned work on your fitness. If you get a ROTC scholarship you'll be tested very near the first day of school. When my ds did it a lot of kids failed the pt test and jeopardized their scholarship. If you're going to be an engineer don't skip the math classes that you think you're testing out of. Start with Calc I or easier. If you're on scholarship it won't matter financially and it will help with your knowledge and gpa. Be prepared to study several hours every night. Not high school study, real study. Upper level math is hard. Congratulations and I hope it all works out for you!

My high school is #1 most difficult in the US, and ranks #10 on the US News and World Report. I went from middle school no homework, to studying everynight till 12 - 1 AM, because of the AP/IB Curriculum. I have literally only IB Courses this year.

@glen Maybe you would know an answer of some sort. I was initially planning on trying to visit El Cid on October 22nd... but obviously they only have regular tours, and not overnight visits.

I just read the article published saying there will be no more indoor-mask requirements, signaling that things are heading in the right direction. My point here is, would it be worth while to wait a while longer, and see if they start doing the pre-knob visits?

I could be completely wrong, but didn't The Citadel have a summer camp for students that were accepted? Do not quote me on this.

They do, but it costs nearly 3k - 4k. It's a full month before Matriculation Day.

Do you happen to know the name of the camp?
It is called CSI- citadel success institute. It does not seem to be that huge of a benefit for those students who do CSI. It is though a good way to meet your classmates.

I am considering doing it but the price is way too high. I am already going to pay out of state tuition.

I totally understand if you can't do it, and that is fine because honestly you will be caught up to speed on everything and you won't be behind after hell week. If you just work out on your own you'll be fine. If you took some challenging classes in high school then you will do fine academically. Coming to The Citadel is really just a mindset thing. If you have any questions about The Citadel feel free to ask me. I am currently a sophomore here.
