Good evening all, I was informed via phone call that I was expecting a "good piece of mail" from my admissions officer but I have not received an official acceptance letter from The Citadel yet. I did however receive an email today inviting me to the Inside the Gates event for applicants. Could anyone tell me about their experience at such an event? I am attending USCGA's Bear's Day on December 3rd but I can likely make another session I would just miss more school than I'd prefer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a positive development. I am not 100% sure, but I think the Inside the Gates was a series of virtual events that was put on by Admissions to introduce admitted students to the school and the various academic departments. My DS is a smack at The Citadel and all of his orientation and tours were in person, but I think they were virtual last year. Hopefully the pre-knob visits will be in person this year. Here is something I found about the program, this is specific to the School of Engineering:

Good luck there are some current cadets and alumni that are very active on the SAF - they are great sources if you have specific questions.

Inside the Gates is an invitation to applicants to visit the campus and meet with Admissions, Academic and ROTC officials. See:
Inside the Gates. These are on-campus, in-person visit programs open to students who have applied for admission to The Citadel for the fall of 2022 (academic acceptance is not required). Each visit occurs on a Friday and is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of The Citadel. Students and parents have the opportunity to learn more about the the following aspects of the cadet lifestyle:

  • Academic programs
  • ROTC opportunities
  • Cadet life
  • Financial Aid
  • Student Support Services
Each event begins with registration at 0900 (9:00 a.m.), and scheduled events wrap up following a cadet-guided tour of The Citadel campus. On most Fridays, the Corps of Cadets presents a weekly dress parade at 1545 (3:45 p.m.), for which visitors are welcome to stay. Use the links below to register for Inside the Gates.

if an on site visit is not possible, you can also set up an appointment for a virtual visit with an Admissions counselor - see:

I applied 8/16/21 and have not received my acceptance yet, but I was also invited to the Inside the Gates via email. I signed up for the one on October 22nd. Let me know when you hear back from the Citadel, and best of luck to you!

I got an email from The Citadel Admissions saying that my letter will be sent out 'shortly' about a week or so ago, so my University Guidance Counselor predicted anytime in the next week or so, I will let you know when it comes, but I hope it is sooner rather than later.

oh really? that's nervewracking. I've not heard a single thing from them. When did you get the email?

I emailed them first with a question that I had, I said something along the lines of "do you have everything you need to make a decision". They said on their website that it'll take anywhere between 4-6 for a decision, so it is weird that you turned it in on July 31st and still haven't heard anything. I guess it might change from year to year.

I'll send them an email. Just in case!

I went ahead and sent admissions an email, asking about my application to make sure everything is submitted. I also did note that if I am accepted, I will with no doubt commit there, so I would hope to get a decision notification, earlier than later in the year.

I don't exactly like the fact that they use USPS to give out decision notifications instead of an email into a portal, since I don't exactly trust mailing some documents, and how some stuff tend to get lost or whatever!

I'll update what they say.

Here's what I got:

Michael,

Thank you for the email. Your application is complete, and we will begin sending out admissions decisions next week. Keep an eye on your mailbox the next couple of weeks.

I am sorry that you have not received any other communication from our office, but the email address listed on your application is "x" May I update your address to "xx"

Register here for a Virtual Information Session or enjoy our virtual campus tour.
Schedule an individual meeting with me powered by Zoom.

Did you get an email from Ms. Lugo or somebody else? Also, it is good news to hear that decisions will start being sent out next week!

Also commenting on the USPS portion, I am in Canada so it'll probably be a while before I get my letter even after they send it out...

AHHHH.... I'm freaking out right now, no lie.....

The same gentleman sent me this email this morning:

Michael,

I am going to update your email address to "x" . You will be of the first people to receive an admissions decision for Fall 2022.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
