The cocktail thread (I blame the Rona) - post yours !

I don't think I have seen this mentioned in this thread, so here is my addition to the list.

I must say I abused more than enjoyed these drinks back in the day. Now, I find them a nice and refreshing summer thirst quencher.

In the spring of my senior year, just as I was leaving town, we discovered that the local VFW didn't object to a few non-boisterous students spending a little money at their establishment even though it was obvious none of us had served, kind of a Don't Ask Don't Tell of another stripe.

They sold pitchers of kamis for $7. Ohh, so cheap, almost too cheap. They were so cheap we couldn't stay long without literally falling over. I haven't had one in years, but tonight I might.

Giving everyone plenty of notice. Conveniently on Saturday.

Last weekend my wife and I went to the Acme bar in Annapolis, which is a favorite haunt of upperclass MIDNs. It's also where a lot of ARIs (Alcohol Related Incidents) tend to begin, or end...

We met Bernie the bartender. My wife had a lager, and I had a pint of the black stuff.

I can’t tell you the number of mids I fried who either did underage drinking there with a fake ID (never, ever a good idea), or started there and then did Things That Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time. The Acme probably has the highest word count in almost 3 decades of misconduct reports at USNA.

Next time, go to Levels on West St. or the Chart House for the great view and fireplace, should you require a beverage in a place NOT conveniently located at the top of a slope lined with banana peels and military bearing grease. 🥴😵‍💫

I have three kids. One is 21, One (the Mid) is 20, and one is a 17 yr old.

I try to be honest with them that I was not an 'angel' when I was their age. The only difference is that my pics are hidden in a shoebox and their's are posted on the world wide web... But we never drove or got out-of-hand. On a Friday night, my friend's mom would make a huge pot of pasta and meatballs. His dad bought a few cases of beer. And then they collected all of our car keys. We ate, drank, and slept here every Friday, and all our parents were on board knowing that we were all under control.

The reality is... Underage people drink. I did. I'm sure MANY on this forum did. But I never did the 'drinking games' or anything else to get as drunk as possible. And if we did... We NEVER drove home.

My 20 yr old Mid will have a beer at a private event. And if he is not driving, he'll have a few. He knows what and how many is appropriate. I can't get over how Mids and non-Mids dry to get as drunk as soon as they can... I just don't get it... Have fun, but don't be an idiot. And DON'T drive if you are drinking. It's nothing new. We had designated drivers 30+ years ago when I was in college. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I posted (what I feel) is the perfect margarita recipe before, but I have to say that if you mix equal parts of Grand Marnier and Tequila that it makes a pretty decent drink to sip over ice (albeit all 80 proof) without the lime or syrup sweetness.

On my recent canoe adventure, i brought sugar fee Tang mix and mixed up a batch at a time in a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle. Then I added it to Smirnoff 100 in a stainless steel cup. Very smooth. After the Smirnoff ran out, we mixed it with bourbon. Surprisingly, that was good too. Drinking with strictly for medicinal purposes to help us sleep after canoeing all day and having sore backs.

Any of the above work pretty well with tequila, let me tell you!

This was my favorite.

I have a friend who drinks Grey Goose vodka and Red Bull. He says that "sometimes the Goose gets you and sometimes it's the Bull !"

After my very unplanned Tuesday visit to Annapolis, I'll give an Old Fashioned (cocktail) review/opinion.

I picked up a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon at Walgreens at an incredfible price. At least compared to the prices at PA state stores.

I decided to try three different techniques to make an Old Fashioned.

I would give you all the boring details of what I did, but to cut to the chase... They all tasted the same. There are people who will fight to the death over how to make the 'perfect' Old Fashioned, but I can't tell a difference!

A little sugar. Bitters. Bourbon (or Rye). A splash of water.

I usually add an orange peel because of tradition. I made one without the orange peel. Truthfully, I couldn't tell the difference.

I will say that I do not care for muddled fruit in my Old Fashioneds.,

If you are new to bourbon/whishey/rye, or are nervous about trying these spirits out, I suggest you try this cocktail. Unlike many cocktails, an Old Fashioend is all about the base spirit. Very enjoyable!

I will say that my favorite Old Fashioneds have Rye as the base. I think the peppery/spiciness flavors are a good complement to the sugar added to the drink.

Corporate Walgreen’s should give SAF a kickback for all the business pointed to The Secret Liquor Store In The Back Of The Taylor Ave. Walgreen’s. No signage out front. I get tickled when SAF out-of- towners make this a part of their rounds.

The BEST part is that my wife always asks me... "You went to Walgreens in Annapolis again? You know we have a Walgreens at home, don't you?"

My response... "The Annapolis Walgreems has INCREDIDIBLE cough medicine prices. It's well worth the stop."

Now, if they just had a bar tucked in there, with a name like “The Drugstore,” popping into the drugstore would take on a delightful new aspect.

Created two pretty good cocktails last night to celebrate "The Boy" coming home (both in a skinny-tall Collins glass);

The Teufel Hunden Collins
2 oz. Rangapur Gin
1 oz. Lime juice
1/2 oz. Agave nectar
Fill to top with 7-UP
Garnish with cherry and lime twist

The Lemon Lime Drop
2 oz. Deep Eddy Lemon vodka
1/2 oz. Lime juice
1/2 oz. Agave nectar
Fill to top with 7-UP
