The cocktail thread (I blame the Rona) - post yours !

How many here have had the distinct pleasure of sipping a daiquiri from the Daiquiri Lounge at ANC on Farragut Square?

🙋🏼‍♀️ Except I usually have a Champagne Cocktail, not a Daiquiri, at its birthplace, sorry.

I found out my scroll had been released and I was cleared to commission while enjoying my first visit there. It was a joyous occasion.
Perfect timing, just a classic place.
When I spent more time in DC on business, it was a great place to meet for breakfast or lunch, or early dinner before an event. We have used the reciprocal club deal when we can. Got us into some great clubs in London and elsewhere.
Again, a classic, classy bar.

I'm a big fan of the ANCC as well. I love visiting DC.

Since we are in the Cocktail thread, if you haven’t made this classic before, spring is the perfect time to test-drive it. High-quality ingredients and good technique required. Rum, lime juice, sugar, ice.

Bought a 12 pack of this stuff while I was in Annapolis, as it is only available in Maryland and my son said that it was good.
That's saying something, because he doesn't like beer. Apparently this is popular in "Tower" form at the local bars.

I don't know if you can tell, but my second tab open on that tablet was for a vodka sidecar recipe, in true cocktail thread fashion. :)

I like to fly under the RADAR when I visit the yard. I was there from last Thursday through Sunday (yesterday) and I can tell you that I took a photo at the Walgreens over by Navy Bagels because...wow.

The reason that the Anejo position on that shelf is bare is because of me. I bought every bottle and asked if they had more in back.
They’ve re-stocked! Standing here at 1659, ET, Good Friday. Place is busy! Sorry about orientation, not sure why iPhone did that, gotta go put gas in the Vette before MD gas tax holiday ends 25DDE2FE-03F7-4978-8C56-0A32AFF322E8.jpeg

That is a good deal. I suggest that you get more than one. They make great gifts.
Strange that they sold out of the silver, since last weekend.

I can confirm. Guinness also brews a Belgian Wit in Baltimore that I tried for the first time last weekend. It's really good... I dare say it's better than blue moon.

How long to stir???? Is there an official standard???

I enjoyed two (Plymouth) gin martinis tonight, and decided to do a little experimenting.

To be clear, you always stir a martini. If you think it should be shaken, be forewarned that I will report you to the moderators, and there is a pretty decent chance you will be banned from SAF for life...

Tonight, instead of going by my normal '50' stir count, I actually timed the stirs. First martini was a stir for 30 secs. It was good... cold... but I tasted a fairly strong alcohol, although it felt less pronounced with each sip. I enjoyed it.

The second drink I stirred for a full two minutes. What a difference! It was colder, less 'harsh', more herbal. There was at least a 1/2 more oz in my cocktail glass, if not more, obviously due to the extra dilution. I definitely enjoyed it more.

I am wondering the practicality of a two-minute stir at a bar. Time is money. However, at home, I am definitely going for that two-minute stir from now on.

It's all about releasing the esters with the universal solvent.
