The cocktail thread (I blame the Rona) - post yours !

+10 for pescatarian in a post. I bet if I used search for pescatarion it would only find these two posts.
We're headed out this week for a 5 day pescatarian bender down in your neighborhood, on the Outer Banks. Fortunately, October has an "R" in it.

If they have them try the Topsail Salties. They actually are from my neck of the woods. Have fun on OBX.

Gonna be close. Bogue Banks. Maybe technically not OBX. I really only eat Salties and the more local, the better. Thanks for tip. In past years I've only been down there during the summer months, so this will be a treat.

Is there going to be much soft shell crab this time of year?

Yeah, you're way closer. Emerald Isle is nice this time of year. Summer is just too darn hot for the beach (for me, especially since I can't go in the water). Water temp should still be in mid 70s. Air temps should be low-mid 70s up to mid 80s.

Soft Shell crab is a mid-April to mid-June thing, but maybe someone will have some in the deep freeze? There should be plenty of crab and shrimp.

And that concludes our tourism report!

I know what you mean. We stayed there one year, but this time we'll be further East.

Hoping that T & W Oyster bar is still open up Rt. 58 from EI. Whole family has great memories of the that place and the whole area.

DS finishes up at Bragg. DS #2 coming in from CA and we're all headed to the coast.

Was hoping for soft shell. I didn't want to work that hard.

Thanks for the feedback.

Here's one for those who are fans of ruby red. Start by making up some ice cubes out of ruby red grapefruit juice (I used Ocean Spray). Put 2 of those ice cubes in a glass, cover them with grapefruit flavored vodka, then top it off with grapefruit flavored seltzer. Let the grapefruit ice cubes melt as you drink it. After the second one was finished, DW and I named it "Pamplemouse Russe" (Russian Grapefruit).

The newest one from this weekend:
THE RYE OF THE TIGER: Bulleit Rye, Grapefruit Bitters, House Made Cherry Cordial, on ice, stirred well.

You had me at the ice cubes.

I am truly sorry to hear that, @OldRetSWO. I am drinking some nice anejo Tequila right now.
Let's just say there was more than one experience that precludes me from 'sipping' on any tequila. My brother in law tried to convince me last weekend, that since it was very expensive tequila, I should try it. I did not agree with his assertion.

I find there is an inverse correlation to the desire to drink a particular flavor of distilled spirits to whether it has, in fact, traveled in both directions in your upper GI tract, and if one of the directions was involuntary.

I had to stop drinking tequila in college. (There will be no follow-up questions.)

Many years later I found myself in the parking lot before a mud run with buddies knocking back a couple shots to enable my finest 40-something performance. I found it better than I remembered, even if I wasn't any smarter.

Southern Comfort and I had quite an entanglement one night almost 40 years ago and to this day I get queasy even thinking about the smell of it. Fortunately, there is nothing else that smells like it.

On the other hand there is a Greek Liquor, "Metaxa" with which I had a legendary experience during our one short liberty break from the Lebanese Civil War in "83" and I chose not to drink it again so as not to sully the fond memories. . .

Well it's Sunday, after church, and past 11:00am. DW and I found a decent bloody mary mix purchased on the clearance rack at local grocery store some time ago and while cleaning out the fridge, found remainders of said bottle of Daily's Mighty Spice Thick & Spice taking up useabke space. Upon observation, there seemed to be just enough mix in the bottle to craft beverages for both of us.

So, deciding that it's 5:00 somewhere, and feeling like a chemist, I poured vodka directly into the mix bottle, shook together to properly mix, then dispersed into two ice filled and celery garnished glasses.

We made some space in the fridge and are happy to report we will be doing our part for the environment by placing the now empty plastic bottle in the recycle bin!

Seeing how the leftovers from hurricane delta are heading our direction, we hope all are safe and wish everyone a productive Fall Sunday afternoon!

So, I “liked” your post, @Dad_2024, but not because a hurricane is heading your way. I simply approve of your method of facing the storm. Solid choice. Cheers!
