The disqualification letter

It is actually a rather nice letter if you can get past the bad news. Mr. Mullen - it would be really great to include an explanation of why you've been disqualified in the letter. I know my first reaction was "how the heck did they decide that," and it would have been helpful to know exactly what the reviewer was looking at that they thought was disqualifying.

The nice letter also invited me to submit any additional information not previously submitted regarding the disqualifying condition. What happens with that information? Does DoDMERB review the information and reconsider the disqualification when they get new information or do they just forward it to the waiver authorities? Do you need to specifically ask DoDMERB to take another look at the validity of the disqualification after you submit additional information? Thanks!

The business practices and staff we have to accomplish the mission just wouldn't allow us to do that, though we wish we could. That said, that's why we put that second piece in there. We will review anything and everything that someone wishes to send as a rebuttal.

Clearly though, it would have to be information that would categorically refute the previous DQ. (e.g. - Positive TB test untreated. That would be a correct DQ. After completion of the therapy and the submission from the treating physician that the therapy was successfully completed, we would reverse the does NOT meet standards and render a Q determination.....oral braces....do NOT meet medcial accession standards....completion o our orthodontic form by the Orthodontist stating that he/she has removed the braces and the treatment is completed, would cause us to change the determination to MEETS medcial accession standards.

All you have to do is say, you wish this "new information" to be considered as a rebuttal. You may send directly to me. Hope this answers your question satisfactorily

I've been searching this forum for information about braces because one of my twin sons got a disqualification letter whereas the other twin got mailed a simple form (not a disqualification letter) regarding how he has a remedial code (R252.80) that needs to be administratively addressed.

They are identical twins applying to the U.S. Naval Academy. When they went in to get their physicals, they both brought with them a letter from their orthodontist stating the date when the braces are to be removed.

I guess we don't understand why one was disqualified whereas the other was given the logical recourse of filling out a form to address the braces.

Could we simply copy that form that one of twins got and fill it out for the son that got the disqualification and mail it to the same address?

Surely, candidates with braces on during the physical exam, yet will be taken off prior to admission must happen all the time. I don't understand why they are handled so inconsistently.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated. It is very discouraging to lose a chance for admission for something so silly as this ... and it seems completely administrative in nature - that's the worst part!

After a phone call and an email message, this has been resolved The two boys were reviewed by two different Reviewers, who were taking two different paths, to get to the same result.
