The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

I thought this was fake, then I read the New York Times Article:

The restaurant owner said that he:
"...had never learned much about Hitler's Germany. We are not very strong in history. Hitler has never come to India, so we don't know about him. They say he killed Jewish people in gas chambers. So many people are talking about it, so it must be true."

Wow.

Five years and two ships at the world’s largest naval base and I’ve seen it, the Norfolk Naval Station, both nearly empty and full of ships including five carriers in port at once. This large number of ships is impressive compared to my day. This 1954 photo is of the Norfolk D&S piers taken at 3000 feet. 0186EE97-F0F7-488F-9FA9-88861074AFA1.jpeg

My wife and I have a deck garden which is taking a lot of water to maintain in this heat wave. Areas just to our north got heavy rain tonight but we got none. This year we have jalapeños, cayenne, and these salsa peppers. Maters. Cucumbers. String beans. We also have several pots of flowers including this hibiscus. We have hummingbird feeders that stay busy. Our backyard runs into a national forest and the deck keeps the critters away except for a squirrel. He picks green tomatoes and will eat half and leave the remainder on the rail.

I’ll confess to thinking I’d like to go to Comic Con in San Diego just once, just to see what it was like (watch the people!!), but never really considered it, as my costume locker is bare and I would likely not know many of the references, interest areas, insider knowledge.

I just read in the WaPost it’s virtual this year. Anyone can attend, though of course much will be be different.

Just in case you need to expand your cultural knowledge during COVID.

DS and his fiancé went last year. They had an awesome time and were interviewed for the local news. If you ever decide to go and need some tips I can put you in touch.

Never went to ComicCon...but I did accompany DW and her mom to the "Farewell Gathering" for the TV Show "Highlander" back in 1998. At the "dinner" they had...there were perhaps 300 in the dining room, which had a dance floor. The "band" was actually the band of one of the show regulars, Jim Byrnes. While they were playing, one of the "guest stars" from the show walked out and picked up a guitar. He strummed it, adjusted the strings a bit, and then said "I just can't be near music without playing..."

Our table was perhaps 30 feet from the band, in the center. And he spoke to the band, they grinned, and then off he went, playing and singing.

Oh, did I not mention his name? Roger Daltry.

Yes, we saw folks in weird costumes, etc...etc...but a "mini-concert with Roger Daltry" was an unexpected treat!

Reminds me of a story I heard about John Paul Jones...not the Navy guy, the bassist for Led Zeppelin. Anyway, the story goes that he's a member of a current band and every now & then, he breaks into a Led Zep riff which, according to the band, he does, " to remind us of that other band he was in!" LOL

My MIDN is home right now. His lady friend is a sushi goddess. They got together and made us this for dinner last night.

Tuna, creamy sriracha, avocado, cucumber, carrot, sticky rice, seaweed wrapped goodness.
I think I had about a dozen, with a can of Bushido sake.

They are cooking for us again tonight. I have no idea what it's going to be, but I'm loving it.

Tonight: Fat rib-eyes, Eastern Shore sweet corn, home-grown tomato salad, strawberries just in from Watsonville, CA. I’ve already found a reason to eat a plate of strawberries for lunch. If I had the energy to make strawberry ice cream, I would.

I'm leaving the office about 30 minutes early, going home and mow the yard (takes about 2 1/2 hrs) then pouring a nice cold adult beverage and watching BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!:groupwave:

Reminds me of the time we were visiting my parents. My Dad was cooking & DW asked if she could help. Dad said, "No thanks. I don't want you doing anything you're not used to." He was a hoot!;) (& also right!)
