The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

Wife got me an Owl Experience at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. This screech owl weighed less than the glove we had to wear. When I opened the present I pulled out a stuffed owl and said, oh thanks. She said, look at what else is in the box, silly. I did and said, “PITTSBURGH” kind of dreadfully.

It turned out to be a fun trip and kind of a humbling experience holding such a small but powerful creature. This little guy is named Cedar and if he was in the wild would boast a 95% success rate as a hunter which is much higher than any other raptor.

My near half-century best friend and partner in many a junior officer sea story escapade from our Ensign days in Rota and I were co-shopping on Amazon, texting back and forth, looking for new counter stools for her kitchen. She’s very handy and can assemble anything with ease, regardless of how scrambled a non-U.S. country’s English directions might be.

We decided against this option on principle, because we might not qualify, as Odd Females.

Since you post about eating even numbers of cookies, and there were two of you shopping, I think you are overestimating your oddness.

Ironically, I need to look about for some rounded version of these, myself.

Good thinking on the evenness.

Be sure you meet all installation criteria before purchasing!

Looks like you're approaching your exit!
Wife took her car in for an oil change and tire rotation. Three hours and 1100 dollars later we go back to Stafford to pick it up. Had to replace the PCV valve whatever that is. Also something had to be done with the throttle body yada yada something something.

This probably belongs in the joke thread but, sadly, it's a true story from my youth. When I took my first car in for maintenance, the tech asked if I wanted the tires rotated. I was sure he was messing with me, so I treated him like the wise-guy I thought he was being and said, "No, they rotated all the way here, thanks." DH educated me later when he could stop laughing.

Just recently saw this quote and thought it might be worth sharing.
"Your diet is not only what you eat; it is what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, and even the people you hang around with. Be mindful of the things you put into your body ... emotionally, spiritually, and physically." (Author unknown)

❄️Snow Day in The DMV❄️
(DC-MD-VA, not what you usually think it is!)

❄️❄️❄️Post your pics. Bonus points for mid pics of the Yard. ❄️❄️❄️

The mids on the USNA Yard should be happy, as I am betting they have no classes today. Snow started in the Annapolis area around 0200 and will stop between 2200-0100 tonight. Essential personnel only, most likely.

I got the photos below at theoretical sunrise a few minutes ago. I love the snow when it’s pristine and un disturbed. It’s quiet and cold outside. I saw a fox loping quietly along. Normally I can hear the stream behind our house gurgling away as it heads to the Severn River, but not this morning. I suspect there is a thin ice layer muffling the spund.

Some years we get zero snow or a few transient flakes, some years a few full-blown storms, even thunder snow. I recognize the lake-effect snow people, the far Northeast snow people, serious Midwest and Wester snow people laugh at the closures here, but we do get odd Bay effects on the precipitation that causes the dreaded black ice that snarls everything. It also doesn’t help that we have many people who are clueless about driving in the snow and think because they have an SUV with AWD their coefficient of friction on icy surfaces is somehow immune.

I miss the snow after all these years in AZ. I grew up in Michigan. Keep the beautiful pics coming, but stay safe. Our son is in the Annapolis area (Ft. Meade) trying to stay warm. Maybe he'll share some pics with me.

College in Mobile. Snow flurry forecast and Roommate from Florida looking out the window asked what snow looked like. Stationed Oregon and Airman from Florida went off the road to base three times. Snow is not rain. Then again Florida people know to get off the road during those blinding thunderstorms and let the northerners navigate. Snow flurries now but we will miss the big stuff. Love AZ but other four corner areas have more green. A classmate was assigned to Sault Saint Marie. I think they issued him a parka and a snow shovel upon arrival.

I have friends in Wisconsin I only visit in the Summer. They have 5'-0" tall fiberglass poles attached to their fire hydrants so the fire department can find the hydrants in the Winter.

Yeah.

No thank you.

That’s why we spend half the year in Maine. We were fortunate to see snow on Thanksgiving day this year. Usually, we return to AZ in October, but DS and his wife wanted to spend the holiday with us at the cabin. We never say no to that.

Used to hunt in Elsworth. Great Hunters Breakfasts put on by charities and Lobster dinners at local restaurants. Other than wandering in the Adirondacks Maine does feel like you are in the Leatherstocking Tales. Just for a while.

Will probably end up with 10 inches after it ends later tonight. I should have cleaned off the weather station. I named it Tinman from the Wizard of Oz.IMG_2510.jpeg
