The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

Good choice. I really like Anson Mount. Watched every episode of Hell on Wheels twice primarily because of him. I can't wait to get to the Star Trek Discovery episodes where he plays Capt Pike.
DS and I have watched a few Discovery episodes together, Pike is in season 2, not there yet. We get it on CBS all access via Prime video, I think it's 8.99/mo, cost of a movie during back in the old days, also fondly remembered as "precedented" times.

My first shipboard assignment while waiting to go to Surface Warfare Officers School was temporary duty to a destroyer berthed in Newport RI at Pier 1 (no longer under Navy control) which was right down the hill from the Junior Officer's Club "The Datum". The times posted in this meme are pretty accurate although there was also falling and crawling (steep hill) involved.

The Datum! Been there. OCS OCs were allowed to go there.

The sounds of freedom...WWII-style!
ALWAYS love the sound of some Merlins...

Reminds me of my youth...walking to school...hearing planes, looking up...a formation of 12 spit's...headed out....and then some Hurricanes...more...sound...then...the Heinkels...here they come, headed toward my school...they've got '109's escorting them....a furball ensues...spits and 109's mixing it up, the hurricanes going after the Heinkels...

Watching a Heinkel, trailing smoke, headed earthward...for a young boy in Britain it was an amazing time!!!

I loved it!!

Oh, didn't I mention it was 1967/1968 and they were filming the movie "The Battle of Britain" near where I lived?

Ask me later about the young lads that broke into the planes at RAF Duxford...

Steve
