The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

Darn! You guys are too quick. I was hoping I could stump the MRE generation. ;)

No K-rations for me but lots of C-rations.

@Devil Doc, you’re right. C-Rations it was. I would have been eating K-rations with the Duke had I been on the set of The Sands of Iwo Jima. I transitioned to MRE's and I liked the beef stew. Still miss my trusty John Wayne.
I thought so. I was first generation MRE. I use the large John Wayne can openers at home. They are easier on the old fingers but keep me connected to my youth.

Which except for the ham and eggs...weren't too bad.

Never had "K" rations although the survival rations in the bailout kit in the ejection seat had these "cornflake" bars that...if you didn't break your teeth on them...a small bar would keep you going for a day.

My favorites were “beans and balls” and “beans and baby xxxx” along with a shot of Tabasco sauce.

And who could pass up the pound cake?

The peanut butter was great to eat (and light fires) but the crackers were nearly inedible dry.
Pound cake...

Okay, with that and peaches, one was rich!!

By a new one for under 5 bucks

@OldRetSWO appreciate the link assist. DW picked some up from Cabelas a couple of years back. She keeps one in the glove compartment just in case. They’re shiny. My original was dark and looked like it had been around the block a couple of times.

Diamond Head, 1933. I was stationed on a ship out of Pearl Harbor in the age of color photography but found this old photo and thought it was worthy of sharing.

my grandma had a picture similar to this. She was a navy nurse, and my Grandpa was stationed there. He served on the Arizona, but was transferred off of it to a ship in the Philippines just a few months before 7 December. I hope to see the islands someday, it's on my bucket list.

@OldRetSWO That P-38 on Amazon is a "limited edition!"
Some of the youngsters may have to go to YouTube to see how to use one though-LOL!

Dang, I knew the good Senior Chief was salty, but didn't think you were that old ! :)

All my Navy time was East Coast, but I made it to Hawaii twice since then. Both to Kauai, but the first trip included an overnight at Waikiki on the way home (Naturally, a Navy guy can't go to Hawaii without seeing Pearl Harbor , and visiting the Arizona memorial). Other than seeing Pearl Harbor, the stop in Oahu was pretty disappointing ..so crowded and it just happened to be raining the entire day (after a near perfect week in Kauai). All I remember was spending hours waiting in the lobby of the Hotel (Sheridan MoanaSurfrider ?) waiting to go to the airport for our 10 pm flight home.

Winter is coming to The Great White North! Something else to worry about.
