The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

Musing over my Manhattan this evening that our son's R-Day was seven years ago today. My, how time flies. I think I need a refill.
I’m a Manhattan man as well. Recently read about something called a Reverse Manhattan: two parts vermouth, one part whiskey (I prefer rye), dash of bitters (this part’s standard). I may try it this weekend, in honor of four years since DD’s USNA PPW.

I can see DD being a handy ongoing celebratory reference reason. “5 years since her Herndon.” “20 years since her service assignment.” “4 hours since she graduated.” “30 years since her first A-N game.” Jot these dates down now and rejoice you will never be without a reason to enjoy a toasting beverage.

Oh, I miss fresh fish like that!! When I trained the Alaska ANG they really became good friends. They'd call before they came for training. "Steve...how's your freezer?"

"Empty!!" (even if it wasn't)

They'd come down and hand me 5-8 cleaned Reds (Sockeye), and 10lbs or so of fresh halibut, every time!!

I love those folks!!

I must be in ET Drawer Overdrive today.

I recently attended, for the first time, an unaccompanied veterans ceremony at one of the state veterans’ cemeteries. Veterans being interred with no family or friends expected are given all honors due, treated with great respect, and people turn out to be there and pay their respects. It’s 5 miles from my house, and I had never been. Moved my heart.

Here’s a pic from the MD Veterans newsletter email feed.

∆∆∆ Live coverage from NASA TV on the Artemis Program launch of SLS-Orion this morning at 0833.
The countdown is currently on hold at t-minus 40 minutes, due to some liquid hydrogen filling (mostly leaking) issues.
This is an "unplanned hold" while the cryogen team updates the Launch Director on the next steps.

If you have been living under a rock for the last ten years, here's some background on Artemis:
