The Gunsmith Thread

@THParent, & other posters! Any chance at ID'ing that firearm shown at the end of the video? Thx

I'm glad I never had the displeasure of hearing automatic fire in at work in a LE scene. I've seen the video of the Hollywood cops responding to the bank robbery & thought of crouching behind the motor block of the patrol car with my Glock in my hand saying WTF! I'm sure vets have training & real life experiences which allowed them to operate under that but as a civilian, that firepower gives one pause...to say the least.

BTW: Only heard a shotgun racked twice in the street. Only ESU (a SWAT-type unit) carries them. Both times that it was done, time froze. Everyone there, the cops, the perps, the civilians froze... It's an attention getter!

It looks a little like a PM (Makarov) with that curved underbelly to the camo slide (just in front of the frame). It's a very distinctive characteristic.
Also, the mag plate isn't the full width of the frame, so it indicates (to me) a smaller caliber, like 9x18 (with a mag well mounted mag catch).

They are in front of the scope case. Maybe they just want spy on the Priests?

Excuse me! You nuns over there! Yeah, you! 6'-0" apart! C'mon! Read the sign!

I always cringe a little when I see someone skip one off a rock and it appears to go straight up. That 600 grain projectile has to come down somewhere.
Granted, they are out in big sky country, but still.

I was watching the cinematic classic Deadpool (2016) the other night, and noticed some oddities.

Before he tells his friends to get ALL THE GUNS Deadpool gazes upon the desk. There lies a box of .303 British ammunition.
Why, I asked myself? Deadpool has never been seen with a Short Magazine Lee Enfield or a Bren gun for that matter.
Why would he have the ammunition for it?

Also, all the ammo boxes are from a fictional manufacturer named "Felcan".
This is a apparently a reference to Felcan Enterprises, the name of the Vancouver-based armory which supplied the weapons used in the movie.

Yep, the bag he packs even has .303 British (green boxes) in it, along with 12 Gauge, and .308 Winchester. I guess it really doesn't matter, because he leaves it all in Dopinder's cab.

To continue my dissection of the movie, he obviously reloads his ammunition for the Desert Eagle, because that's Starline brass.
Did you notice the split case on shell casing #11? Better dial back the powder on that load, Mr. Pool.

Also, I want to know how you get stamped numbers on primers. That would really clear up who's brass is who's on the range. I used to do a nail polish paint inlay (in the text) on the bottom of my brass when I shot in competition. Having personalized primers would be a game changer. ;)

I was shooting one of my .22LR pistols yesterday at 25'-0" and had a 20-round group the size of a quarter. There was a guy two lanes down from me shooting an AR-15 (also at 25'-0")!!!! who was putting holes all over the paper. I'm talking about a man-sized IDPA target and hitting outside the body.

At 25'-0".

With a rifle.

At least Mr. Magoo was at the range practicing. I guess that's a positive, right?

Ha! I have never even seen anyone use a rifle at that distance at my range.
