The long wait... (Just a vent post)

Congrats YoHanNee. You helped with advice for my DS in regards to having to redo his push-ups for the CFA. As of yesterday he was still on the NWL - my hope has all but faded for him though.

Any update? Never give up hope until you see that official correspondence letter for a rejection, as long as that doesn't happen, he is still in the game. Goodluck.

No update as of today. DS isn’t awake yet but I imagine a TWE is on its way.

Why would you think that? I thought your kid was on the NWL.
If that is the case, then you have no idea if it will be the TWE or the BFE.
This is a marathon. Prepare to go the distance, kids are still waiting to receive offers from USMA or from other service academies before selecting USMA. We have 30 more days. It will get harder to wait as April starts to move--but it does not mean anything until your kid gets his notification.
Keep faith.

He is on the NWL but I read from a RC that 95% of appointments are offered by the end of March. I guess reading that and knowing todays date, I’m preparing myself.

If you read through the appointment thread, from our own small sample, there are a ton of kids out there waiting to hear from another first choice academy or they are waiting to come off the waiting list for MIT. Things are still very much in play.
Make a plan with your kid, pay that deposit if you must, accept that Army ROTC scholarship all before the deadline--but you will not know until you hear from USMA. I had one kid get in first week of September and one get in the last week of April. They are both USMA grads and Army officers now.

🙋‍♀️ Later May here!

It’s 100 pct if you get in. Period. That’s how it works in my brain.

Yup, we’ve done all of that - he’s good to go for plan B, just waiting on Plan A.

Thank you for your sage advice. It’s funny, DS is taking this all in stride, it’s my husband and I that are on pins and needles.

If you look at last year’s 2025 Appointment thread on this forum you will see that the final candidate listed received an appointment 7 June and he/she was number 174. Also this forum represents only a small percentage of appointments so there could be a good amount of appointment opportunities left at this point when you multiply that out. As previously stated this forum is not a scientific or consistent sampling as the members on here are self selecting but that should give some perspective that there is still a good amount of road left in this race.

So, I did not say anything to my youngest except when he headed out on a Spring Break pilgrimage to Rome. I was like, 'You might want to spend a little time asking God about West Point.' It worked.

If it makes you feel any better, we are in this position for USMA (waiting on a decision) while sitting on a USAFA offer that we had to accept or lose. DD's admissions officer told her that ONE person is between her and USMA. He isn't replying to her and has until 1 May to respond, so we wait. The flip side...some pour kid is waiting on that USAFA seat too. If my DD does get USMA, she'll be releasing that seat to him/her. I get the feeling that there will be a bit of a game of musical chairs after 1 May.

Just curious, but did you directly ask admissions about your DD’s status? Wondering if I could do that for USAFA so I know where I sit 😓

No, we happened to be there for a visit and her admissions officer happened to be the one doing the admissions brief. She offered to talk to DD at the end of the day. She asked if there was anything else she needed to do for her file. She was told no that everything was good and we just needed to wait for that one person to make their decision. Regardless, she's still on the NWL. This one person is from our district. If he declines, the next spot for our district was DD's. If he doesn't, she still has a chance to come off of the NWL due to other offers being declined. I think we just got extremely lucky to have access to that level of information and that probably isn't the standard.

Edited to add - I'm not expert on any of this, so feel free to step in DrMom if anything I've said is inaccurate.

Again, there is no way to know...but you will see as kids turn their appointment to 'decline' that other kids suddenly get offers. Also, my youngest cadet did the exact same thing with USAFA, with a clean heart and after much consideration, he accepted the appointment before he lost it--and we started preparing for him to go to USAFA. Then he was accepted to USMA at the end of April--and he really took a few days to reflect and do a little research (on academic programs, etc) to help make up his mind--before declining his appointment to USAFA and accepting USMA.

DS has 2 noms. Pretty sure he didn’t win his slate for the one and the other is an ROTC nom. I read only 20 are offered but I don’t know if that’s 20 per year or 20 in the academy at any given time.

I'm in the exact same position. Got a nom from congressman and rotc, someone else from my school got appointed from the congressman, so now I just got to pray on rotc.
