The Military Feel Good Thread - Post anything

It depends on what "mood" you wish to set.

"The Quiet Man" is always a good one. The others listed above are excellent. "Captain Blood" or "Robin Hood" (the original 1938), and of course the classic pilot movies: "Twelve O'Clock High, Strategic Air Command, Command Decision, The Battle of Britain, Flying Leathernecks..." the list goes on...

Watching National Lampoons Christmas Vacation for the bazillionth time. At the part where the squirrel jumps out of the tree and Elaine Benes just slugged her husband.

Naturally, as a flieger, you lean toward aviation pics. One on my favorite B-17 pics is The War Lover with Steve McQueen and Robert Wagner. The basic theme of the story was used again in The Hurt Locker.

Naturlich; ich war eine jadgflieger.

But that aside, my tastes run the gamut. More? "In Harms Way (1966)", "The Sand Pebbles", "The Great Escape", "Captain Horatio Hornblower (Gregory Peck)", "Dr. Strangelove", "Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "The Holiday", "ANY of the Hotel Transylvania movies", "The Caine Mutiny", "Mr. Roberts", "The Enemy Below", and of course "The Bedford Incident."

All excellent movies; some might not set the "tone" you're after but they're all superb.

Yeah...I'm a movie nut.

Great choices. I made DS watch classic movies with me. Once there was a news story about the DoD taking a Russian on a tour of the Pentagon. I knew I had an impact on DS when he said, "Wait. He might see the Big Board!"

Now that we're past Thanksgiving we got together last night and watched Die Hard. The daughters are away for the holiday and StPaulMom feels she's seen it often enough for a lifetime (ie once) so it was just the guys. Getting a tree today, then on to Christmas.

I’ve been reading Walk in My Combat Boots and learned that Navy medics are corpsmen. I would not be a good Jeopardy contestant.

One of the most decorated groups in all the world's militaries and we are called corpsemen. Twice.

At least he didn't say "end quote."

I posted coverage of this event a few years ago and felt it was time to bring it out for new members. This definitely qualifies for the military feel-good thread.

The Coast Guard's Christmas Tree Ship will be arriving in Chicago today, December 3. The Christmas Tree Ship is carrying 1,200 Christmas trees from Cheboygan, MI to Chicago for needy Chicagoans.

"Chicago's boating community reenactment of the olden days of the Rouse Simmons landing in Chicago is now portrayed by the US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. The trees are off-loaded from the Mackinaw by local youth volunteers, including Sea Cadets, Venture Crews, Sea Scouts and Young Marines and loaded onto trucks for distribution to more than a thousand deserving families throughout Chicago by Ada S. McKinley Community Services."

That's what I'm talking about!
I taught my DS how to shoot, clean, and cook lawn rat (squirrel) in the back yard when he was 8 years old.
He'll fit right in, next year.
