The Reapplying Club - C/O 2017!

Did the candidate communicate with his or her USAFA counselor and seek his or her counselor’s guidance?

Man, I would have had a BFE with the amount of calls/emails I made to my admissions counselor! I'm surprised he didn't block my emails! Haha :shake:

@ Knittle, good question. I wondered that too.

I know DS didn't contact his admissions counselor except for a few paperwork issues that were worked out shortly after he completed his PCQ.

When he met with his ALO, most of his application was completed and we were already working on DoDMERB evaluations, had most of the info ready for MOC noms, had his 3 additional LOR ready to go, etc. His ALO pretty much said, watch your deadlines and take the SAT again and call me if you have any concerns.

I would love to hear others thoughts on your question.

The answer is no. The number of times you contact your counselor has absolutely no impact on your evaluation.

Really?

We are evaluated on this?

Yikes! DS hardly ever contacted his Admissions Counselor...although I think he would have if he had email access. His counselor only had a phone contact and the only times DS got in touch with him was to confirm receipt of faxed updates for his file. If this is part of the evaluation, then I hope they count ALO contact as part of it too because that's who DS was in touch with all year.

How many slots does the Athletics Department have to put on the roster for the prep school?

I read about the numbers awhile back and the noms are split among sports. There was suppose to be a significant reduction this year, especially among the "peripheral" sports.

You don't need a nomination to get a prep school offer. The athletic department will have the same number of prep school slots this year that they had last year.

Are there still 50 LEAD slots at Prep?

EAGLE PRIDE! Tried to send a PM to you but apparently you're not accepting PM's. DS is also accepted to ERAU and has been invited to apply for honors program as well. We got word yesterday that he got AFROTC scholarship level 2. So, now gotta get particulars on how ERAU handles these (heard rumor that they match funds) and what other finacial aide help they offer. But the school looks great!

He got a call today from AFROTC at Texas A&M as well that they might be able to help him with his admissions issue there since he's now on scholarship. {{His HS messed up and didn't send the transcript when we'd ordered it and A&M refused to accept it late eventhough he was already automatically qualified for admission due to class rank and ACT scores.}} That's why he looked into ERAU. If we can get the TAMU thing worked out, it's going to be a real contest between the two. His dad and I and big Sis are all Texas Aggies (so STRONG family pull there :thumb: ) but ERAU looks like a perfect match and we're very impressed with their attitude about cadets applying to AFA. ((We got word from a ROTC instructor @ ERAU that he'd be happy to help Chris re-apply to AFA. Talk about supportive!))

It will really boil down to $$$$. Since Type 2 and not full ride (still VERY HAPPY :jump1: with even this level! ) we'll have to see what ERAU offers.

Anyway, send me a PM and I'll get you and my son in contact. It'd be great alread knowing someone there when you two arrive in the fall. Do you do crew as well?

I called my admissions counselor today. I was told my application was very strong, and I was not admitted due to the class size reductions. She also told me I don't really have any specific weak areas in my application to work on. I'm not sure how I feel about this. In one hand, I'm glad USAFA thinks I am a strong candidate. In the other, I don't really know where to start improving my application. I was hoping for a "you really screwed this portion up; go fix it".

You sound like a good fit for a Falcon Foundation Scholarship! *crossed fingers*

I'm sorry again that you didn't make it. The only thing I can think of to improve on is, if your ACT/SAT scores aren't perfect, you could always try to get those up. Not saying the ones you have are bad, but it's an idea for improving next year. All you can do is keep giving 100%. Keep it up mate. I agree with SDK, you'd be a great candidate for a Falcon Foundation Scholarship.

Do you know where I can find a list of 4dig classes?

Do you know where I can find a list of 4dig classes?

Here's a run down of my courses this year at prep school, maybe it will help you!

First semester
General Chemistry I (+Lab)
History of Western Civilization
Freshman Composition
Pre-Calculus
Military Science
Academy Prep PT

Second Semester
General Chemistry II (+Lab)
History of Western Civilization II
Freshman Composition II
College Algebra
Miltiary Science II
Spanish II
Track (in place of Prep PT)

Now, I elected to take College Algebra instead of Calculus second semester because I have seriously lacking algebra skills. But I would highly recommend taking Calculus if you're up to it. Also, second semester, we were supposed to pick one extra course to throw on our load. I chose Spanish since I knew a bit already and want to do something in linguistics, but I think almost all the other Falcons chose Psychology. Hope this helps a bit!
