I just asked the regional commander on the Facebook Live briefing, he said it is not required. I would take it anyway just to be sure but regardless just giving everyone a heads up.

I agree. The candidate portal very clearly states to take the writing. My son will take the SAT with essay on June 5. I believe that is the last offering by SAT for writing. But the ACT will continue to offer it for now. Part of your application needs to reflect you work hard, are persistent and go around obstacles. Not take the easy road. If you can take the writing, I would do it. Don’t assume they will drop it. I have heard on some of the FB lives that they are dropping the writing. Until that is in writing my son will have the essay complete. Put your best foot forward.

Personally, I'd still take the essays, they are really easy (especially the ACT) only for a little bit more money.

Someone needs to delete this thread or rename it - it is misleading. There are no plans to drop writing/essay portions for 2026 or even 2027 entering classes. WP has always had a writing portion even before SATs and ACTs existed. There have been discussions with WP developing their own written/essay portion proctored at candidate HS if it comes to that...

I've taken the ACT twice now, with the essay. I have the SAT with essay coming up next month, is the SAT essay in the same format of the ACT one?

No totally different. ACT is a ridiculously easy argumentative essay. SAT is very similar to AP English 11, analysis of text. Every SAT I took had me analyze nonfiction text (I found this to be significantly harder than the ACT's writing; I scored really low on this section every time I took it).
Hope this helps.
