The Wait

We are still waiting on DD s decision but her plan B has been to self prep at one of the same schools s the academy uses for scholars. I m pretty sure Marion has a baseball team so if he’s interested in reapplying next year that might be an option for your son! @Shasta142

Some people self prep at one of the few prep schools that allow for USCGA self prep, while others choose to go to a normal college. There are other possibilities which you may research, including enlisting in the armed forces, though none of the aforementioned options guarantee acceptance into USCGA or any of the other SAs.
CGA does value reapplicants because it shows determination and demonstrates that you really want to go to the Academy. If you decide to self-prep at a normal college/university, you may consider:

1. Looking into universities that are Minority Serving Institutes (MSI) so that you can apply for CSPI in your sophomore or junior year if CGA doesn't work out (more info here)
2. Enrolling in classes that relate to your declared major (if you declared engineering for your CGA application, don't take an abundance of humanities classes)
3. Getting involved in clubs and seeking leadership roles (like starting study/review sessions for difficult classes, which should also help keep grades up)
4. Staying physically fit for the PFE, and
5. Keeping in regular contact with your AO and sending him/her any updates

There's no checklist that will guarantee an appointment, but try to address the three main parts of a successful candidate: academics, athletics, and leadership experience. Good luck to all!

Literally our mood right now! 😂 😂:bounce1::wow::stretcher:

Baseball…notified on Friday…coach had not been notified…we are trying to get more info
Sorry to hear. My DS is also a baseball recruit. This upcoming season is going to be the first real season since COVID and under coach Casey.

Unfortunately wasn’t offered an appointment. Good luck to everyone else applying and waiting.

Good luck to you too in all your future endeavours! Navigating the application to any MA is an extremely valuable experience - even when not offered an appointment, you still gain a lot from the process itself! God bless
Thank you! Totally agree, I don’t have any regrets. Hopefully those still waiting find better news soon. God bless you, too!

So impressed by each and every applicant; those that heard great news and those that will have to wait a while longer or find a different or later path. Your continued optimism and sincere best wishes for everyone speaks volumes about the depth of your character. No doubt every applicant will find the place and time when they will shine. Best wishes to all.

My DS has been denied for 2026. Excellent grades and PFE scores, no medical waivers needed. We are extremely surprised since was recruited by a coach. I am interested in what others have done in the year in between applying again. Thanks
Look into self prep at MMI or GMC. These are two prep schools in which USCGA sends sponsored prepsters. That way, he can be around other USCGA cadets and start sharing knowledge and building relationships. They both also offer baseball, but it is very difficult to play and keep your studies up as a self prep cadet. Please send me a message if you have further questions about this.
