The Waiting Club

I’ve read on this site that several DS/DD had their portals updated after midnight while others during the day. I guess it will happen when it happens. The wait is almost over.

This is the first time I have heard this. I thought the portal only updated once a day very early in the a.m., anyone heard of a middle of the day or evening update? If this is really true I will find DS checking his portal even more obsessively. LOL

Our experience was with an early morning update. DS wakes up at 4:30am to get ready for his 5am rowing practice. He checks the portal when he wakes up. Last Wednesday he checked his portal again at the lake during his first break, and it had updated (6am). He texted me shortly thereafter.

Just wondering if anyone has any more insight into the admissions process pertaining to multiple nominations for one academy. I have been through various threads and have a basic understanding, but as I still haven’t heard any word from USAFA, I am growing doubtful if I have any chance left. I had three nominations for USAFA (congressional, senatorial, and presidential) and I am PPQ. Do I have any nomination spot still in the running? Or are they all ruled out at this point if I haven’t heard anything?
I apologize if this is an annoying question and I completely understand if no one can answer!
Best of luck to everyone!

You are still in the running until you receive something telling you that you specifically are not. I am in the same boat with you right now and I am staying hopeful as at this point as not hearing anything is better than getting declined. Stay hopeful! You seem very qualified and I am sure we will hear something very soon.

Are MOCs contacted if a candidate is selected off the NWL instead of their slate, even if candidate has a nomination from the MOC?
I'm wondering this too. I know that 2 kids of the 10 my MOC nominated were recruited athletes, and I know at least 1 kid of the 10 was just rejected this past weekend. I feel like if I get selected, it would be off the NWL or something. But God and USAFA admissions only knows lol.
Can someone answer this because I'm curious too :))

I am curious as well if the portal updates if DS receives a TWE. I would think that it would have to because the portal would have to change DS from Candidate to denied. I wish that the portal would update prior to anyone receiving the TWE. For those who live on the east coast it could take a bit longer to get that letter in the mail. Those who receive an appointment though usually don't see their portal update for days.

I just wanted to say congratulations to all that have received an appointment. You should be so proud! Work hard and remember that faculty members are there to help you. If you end up struggling with the move to CO or you are struggling with a class, there is someone there who can help. You just have to ask. No one is going to look down at you for asking for help.

For those who are waiting like my DS this has been an extremely long process in which you had to endure a lot of anxiousness. Just be proud of yourself, or your DS / DD as they are a special elite of young adults who are amazing in themselves for wanting to be apart of USAFA.

My DS is waiting still. The Congressman's office told us yesterday that they had candidates finding out in June last year... candidates that were NOT on the wait last... That's when they found out!
So my question is.. What if you got into another service academy... They need you to say yes by May 1st. But you still have no response on another academy that was your 1st pick... Do you say yes? And then what if your first pick comes in in June... Can you change your mind? Are there consequences? This is just a difficult position to be in. The other SA notified him in February that he was in.
I keep telling him to wait because it's not a NO yet!! Then he can make a decision if there's one to make. But the possibility of waiting until JUNE???... That changes EVERYTHING!

If your son is totally willing to commit to the SA that accepted him and serve in that branch, he should accept his spot by the deadline even if he has not yet heard from his first choice. If his 1st choice comes through after the acceptance deadline he can accept his first choice and immediately inform the other SA that he will not be attending. There's nothing wrong with doing that and I believe there have been a few on this board who were faced with that situation.

Thank you so much. We can't seem to find any advice on this subject anywhere. We weren't sure of what the repercussions would be if he accepted and then the first choice came through... Sigh... It's so stressful!

Yes, portal updated this morning with offer of appointment shortly before 6am mst. I have to giggle a little bit because I swear, like going through the permitting and licensing process with the DMV, waiting and waiting and waiting is like part of the "test".......

DS now has to process - think it was too early for him to process after finishing a paper late last night!

DS received Falcon Scholarship this morning - he also has an AFROTC scholarship. Any seasoned players out there with advice? We need to research the Falcon Scholarship opportunity more - anyone know the percentage of those who receive an appointment after completing the year of prep? We'll scour these threads for more information also. Hang in there to all those who are waiting!

I finished Northwestern Preparatory last semester and there were about 40 falcons who were up there. You'll find in the threads that a Falcon Foundation Scholarship is a "golden ticket" and it really is. Unless you do something to compromise your integrity, fail your classes, or just really do something dumb you will be offered an appointment next year. I haven't heard of any of my NWP prepsters who haven't gotten in that were falcons.
