My son is a senior, his sat is 1300 and act is 28. His GPA is 3.6, a wrestler and footballer, works, was in Sea Cadets for 4 years, and was boarded for the ROTC scholarship in October (first round). He has had his interview with the rotc person. His college of choice is waiting for his mid term grades to let him know if he has a place or not.
When do the second round of boards meet and when is the notification? And how about the third? He does have a few acceptances for college but it honestly depends on the ROTC. He has applied for ROCT recently.

His brother is National Guard and in college and even though this son could do NG, he dosnt want to follow his brother's footsteps.

The second board for NROTC was in late Oct or early Nov, and results were released in Nov. The third board was apparently in December, and we are waiting as well. Hopefully, we will hear something soon. Hang in there!

Doreann,

Sit back and enjoy the train ride, this process takes time. There is never a lot of action on the front end of this process. I would expect Jan to be slow in addition to the first couple of months. To that end you will really start to see things light up on the forum in Feb, March and the first two weeks of April.

In addition to the normal craziness the board is tasked with other activities like really bad weather, normal Naval responsibilities, holidays etc. etc. They will go round and round with application; lots to look at with thousands applying and a handful reviewing.

Cheers

From your post mentioning 3 boards and the first one in October, I am thinking that you are asking about AROTC, it usually takes two to three weeks after the board meets for any results to be posted. The second AROTC Board meets Jan. 22nd to the 26th, the third AROTC Board meets Mar. 19th to the 23rd.

If your asking about a ROTC program from another branch then follow the other's advice.

He applied to Navy and Army. Thank you. I almost had a heart attack when I read the second board met in Oct but then reread it that it was Navy. He had both interviews before the first board I am sure. I was in the interview with the army guy as he wanted the parents there. We had met him before with my other son.

I understand your anxiety with all the waiting; we went through it last year. I'm sure you have read over and over that no one on this forum is on the board, the pool of candidates are different every year, so therefore no one here can tell you what your son's chances are. But I think you're just looking for some encouragement, so I can tell you based on last year's winners that your son's stats look very competitive to possibly win AROTC second round. Of course, there is no way to pass judgement on the interview, the essays, or the questionaire parts of the application. I hope you get very good news very soon!

Question about waiting (AROTC second board):

Do the awards all come out at once, or do they trickle out over a period of days? In other words, when DS sees others in this forum getting the AROTC scholarship in early Feb but he sees no award appearing in his application page, at what point should he accept that he didn't get the second-board award? Right away?

As I recall I've seen it take a few days sometimes. If he hasn't heard in 5-7 days from the first post here then it's probably safe to assume he's been rolled over to the next board. YMMV.

Also, when you start seeing posts have kiddo log out then log back in. My checked a couple times and it hadn't changed. I had him log out and log back in and it said he was a 3yr winner.

Absolutely. Stuff gets saved in the "session" info on the website. Logging out and back in creates a new session and gets rid of the old crap in there. More info than anyone wanted, I'm sure.
