The Waiting List

Would anyone know what waitlisted means for one's MOC slate? If I was waitlisted, does this mean that someone else has been appointed out from my nomination slate? If I were to receive an appt later, does this count as one of my MOC's spots?

Someone might have a better answer than me, but I'm pretty sure if you're waitlisted then you are in the national pool, meaning someone else won your slate but you are triple qualified and thus competitive for an offer.

Conditional Appointments could also be medically DQ'ed. Waitlisted today too.

Congrats to those waitlisted...I feel like that is a good thing even though now you have to endure more waiting. My DS is still CPR.

If you are waitlisted, I would think your chances for admission with a reapplication would be really good. DS didn't even make the waitlist but got in reapplying. Also, you might actually have a better experience getting in next year, with (hopefully) no pandemic screwing things up. TWE or not getting off waitlist is crushing, yes, but anyone who's made it this far is gonna get back up and go on to amazing things one way or another.

If you received a letter from USNA stating you were on the Waitlist, that means you did not receive an appointment but could still receive one if the yield is less than expected. The "yield" is the number of people who accept their appointments. Like every other school with competitive admissions, USNA forecasts how many of those appointed will accept. If that number or higher accept, no one will come off the WL. If fewer than expected accept, then USNA will start taking folks off the WL.

In recent years, the number from the WL that receive appointments is very small and sometimes it's zero. There is no way for anyone here (or even Admissions) to know how the yield will ultimately turn out this year because there is still time for candidates to accept/decline their appointments. After May 1, USNA will know. They will then turn to the WL, if needed.

If you are on the WL, I STRONGLY suggest you pursue your other option(s). Per a prior thread, you may not want to commit to paying tuition for 4 full years at another school, but definitely do what you need to so that you can attend that other school.

Finally, if you were WL'ed this year, it means you were very, very close to an appointment (and might still get one). You would likely have an excellent chance if you reapply, provided you do well next year. If it doesn't work out for you this year and USNA is still your dream, definitely consider reapplying! Just received a waitlist email as well. I know the chances are slim but I’m ready to endure more waiting. My plan B is completely set but obviously I’d be happier with an appointment.

Do you suspect that they will still make any appointments (from the current CPR pool) after such a large wave of waitlist notifications today
?

my recommendation is to take a look at last year’s appointment thread. You will see some late in the cycle. It is a lot... no.

Does this mean that you were DQ'd by DODMERB and "Under Waiver Review" there?
I think @Sixhair is referring to candidates with LOAs that are waiting for medical waivers to remove the word "conditional" from their offers of appointment. If a waiver is denied, there is no appointment and that figures into the 14% declination rate.

So if we’re still CPR today - Are we really competing for foundation or NAPS spots at this point?
