As time draws near for Service Academies to FINALLY notify those still waiting in limbo mode, I wanted to take this opportunity to give all candidates & parents a central location here to share some feelings. (*cough-cough* Vent or truly have a fit: scream, kick, spit, hit, scratch, bite, cry, ect.)

Please know that even though the Academies give round about dates as to their notification processes, there are still appointments given up to the reporting in dates. It happens. The waiting is a killer & may not end by April 15 for some of you.

Before any of you pull your hair totally out, know that many are waiting right here with you & rooting you on. I am personally doing my part of the worrying with you & can prove it by the newly emptied Girl Scout cookie box (thin mints) to my immediate right as I type this. :wiggle:

Good news/Bad news…. The Academies are hanging on to your applications with good reason: You are quality kids with great parents behind you! CHINS UP! Feel free to share with others how you all are dealing with the stress of waiting. All screams will be acceptable here.

ok, I'll bite

The most difficult part about the wait for me(along with the not knowing) is not being able to make definite plans for the summer. Our lives are basically in a holding pattern until we get a yay or nay. Son is most patient and keeps busy, but even now he asks, "any mail today?" I would imagine a lot of his friends and other seniors at school are talking about where they're going to college now, too.
It's hard to go about your daily life and tasks when a pivotal decision hangs over your head...constantly.
But hey! Enough of the doom and gloom..each day brings us closer to :thumb: I'm trying to be as positive as possible. You can't control what happens, but you can control your reaction to it.
Thanks for asking, jamzmom.

PS..vacation plans

I've heard New London is beautiful in the summer, though...

Keeping the faith. I did want to say GOOD LUCK to all who wait, and a big, big congrats to those accepted. It's a great honor to be in this company.

New London is a fine New England summer community. It will not be nice for the swabs, because there is no AC. They should be ready for sweat, oily acne filled faces, and smelly bodies. Chase Hall smells like swabs in the summer, and that is not a pleasant smell. They do what they can with jumbo fans trying to circulate the air through Chase Hall.

I'm also in the waiting game, but for a different reason. My notification will most likely come by way of cell phone or email, and will mostly likely decide the next three years of my life. It will involve me moving, renting a new place, stopping the rent payments at my current place, and making a complete move. Waiting is not easy, I will give you that. Eventually I'll burn out on waiting, stop caring, and get the call, which will help me regain all that "time to go to the next unit" energy.

Good luck everyone.

zfam, I wish jamzmom had thought of this thread last year....I am not as nice as you!!! Here is what I am feeling as I wait with all of ya'll:

To the USNA and NROTC for being so dang slow with processing waivers:  :bleh2:

To the USCGA for making everyone wait until April 15 to hear:  :unhappy:

To USMMA for not making their school larger so more can go: :confused1::confused:

To the USAFA and AFROTC for not accepting all SA Forum members (and our lovable lurkers): :argue1:

To USMA and AROTC for being perfect and never losing any paperwork: :shake:

To the senior military colleges for their pressure-to-accept tactics: :wow:

To the senior military colleges for their pressure-to-accept tactics: :wow:

you mean tactics like telling you that if you don't get your medical forms in before the class fills even if that happens before May 1st, then you are out of luck?

or sending you a 2nd notice all in red for your invoice for the deposit long before May 1st when you haven't even accepted the offer yet?

those sorts of tactics?

nope. don't know what you are talking about at all...

Y'know, Antoinette, when you put it that way, I am more and more comfortable with DS's choice to accept USMA...they are a class act! :shake:

Go Army, Beat Everybody Else!

mom3boys, now you're getting it....:shake:

LITS, jk, jk! Your alma mater is awesome!!

The first thing I've been asking from my mom when I get in the car after school is "any mail for me?"

If I don't get in, I'll accept that, because there are other ways. If I do get in, I'll be jumping off the walls for a while.

But, I just WANT TO KNOW! I've been waiting since the month of November (which my counsilor lost the paperwork he had to send (the stuff I filled out but needed his signiture and approval before mailing, even though he said he mailed it.... never got there...) three times!.)

The waiting isn't to hard, Senior year last semester goes fast.... Its the unkown that gets ya.

Oooo. I remember rj. I think we offered to go beat up your counselor too.

ARRRGGGGGG! Wait, wait, & wait some more is pretty much all you've heard!! Sorry darlin'. Wish it was an easy fix so you could go on with your life. Tell your counselor that my offer still stands. :shake:

Zfam, I had totally forgotten that part. The part about trying to make plans. You feel like you're chained to the dang house. Ugggg.

As some of you know, our waiting is over for this year, again. Daughter finally said yesterday that she would try a third time. Gotta love the tenacity.

If we're complaining, how about calling academy after first rejection letter. Asked if going to a civilian prep school would help her resume. Told absolutely, they were well thought of. This year called after second rejection letter and was told her prep school is looked on as an SAT mill. She asked them why the foundation sends kids there then and was told, "Oh, if we send them it's okay, but if they go on their own it isn't." Makes no sense.

This is my complaining, kids already getting on with her life and planning for next year. We missed out when we didn't name her "persistent."

Hope the rest of you waiters get better news.:thumb:

I need to change my name to usnahopefulmom2013. Son received his letter of non appointment. He's taking a few days to be upset but has decided to reapply for the class of 2013. I'm so very proud of him and all those who have taken this journey. GO NAVY!

Which academy did she apply to and which prep school did she attend? Did she take the same classes as the sponsored preps? (pm me if you don't want to post it out here)

I agree it does not make sense that an academy is okay with the school if they send them but not if they self prep.

I'm sorry to hear of the rejections for Cougar's daughter and usnahopefulmom2012's son. I am pulling for your kids to get those appointments next year!

sorry to hear that! :frown: but i'm glad to hear she will be applying for 2013!

question about her prep school- did it have what the USNA recommends of non-selects of calculus, chemistry, english composition and history? by the way, it wouldn't happen to have been "northwestern" would it? (just that i've read some things about northwestern)

btw, relating what they said to you about foundation supervision at civilian prep, here is a old post where USNA69 distinguishes between students who go to civilian prep with foundation oversight, vs. those that go themselves:
http://serviceacademyforums.com/showpost.php?p=8895&postcount=73
in fact, the whole thread is pretty good.

maybe USNA69 could drop in and talk about this difference again and shed more light on USNA's comments to your daughter?

VMINROTChopeful, Thanks for the link. I wish I'd read that all last year.

I responded to those who were curious about my daughters situation, but let's leave the thread-jack at that. My daughter is going to reapply for 2013, and is still deciding what to do to get in on the third try. She doesn't blame her prep school or the Academy, she just wants to get on with it and get going.

Smarter than her old man. Thanks for all the help and condolences.

Now, back to our Jamzmom scheduled "Waiting Posse Party!":thumb:

Cougar_62,

Suggest to your daughter that she should apply to USMA - the Army loves persistence.:thumb:

Go Army!!! Beat Navy!!!

To the people who keep saying, "Hey, I heard you got into USNA!" : :unhappy::hammer:

To USNA for being slow with waivers: :rant2::bang:

I feel much better now.

OW MY EYES MY EYES! LOL

gonecokanutts, whoever said patience is a virtue.... well.... they lied. They never had to deal with waivers & such. Fingers crossed for you that this will soon be a memory that you can smile about some day. It won't be long so hang tough!

Wanna kick my puppy?
