The Waiting Thread...

The Luck Of The Irish didn't work this year. TWE with waiver denied. His sibling really wanted to see him as she is Cadre at Plebe Summer. Maritime Academy as plan B and application again. Told him he still has OCS and ROTC. Best of Luck to all still waiting. Our initial appointment for the first one was very late so don't give up hope.:thumb: Some schools may refund the deposit for a SA appointment. You can check with the individual school. Still not a bad investment when you consider the four year cost. Too bad he has my eyes. LOL

I'm so sorry!

Still Waiting...Without DoDMerb Status Updates

Well, now that there's no reason to check DoDMerb 20X a day, I guess stalking the Mailbox is our only outlet.

We've decided today that our son will be going to the Citadel. He was accepted and it is within our control. We can't control the USNA, so no use letting it stress us out anymore. Having said that, we would be extremely happy to change our plans should an acceptance letter arrive. Until then, GO BULLDOGS!

We're not stressing about USNA anymore, either. If it's meant to be, then it will be. It's out of our hands at this point anyway, right?

I paid my son's housing deposit for Auburn University this morning and spent a little bit of time looking at flight info for our trip down in July for Camp War Eagle.

I was in our post office the other day to buy stamps for son's graduaton announcements -- the patriotic flags seemed so appropriate. The postmaster asked if our son had plans after graduation. I proceeded to tell him we were stalking our mail-lady for the UNSA envelope, which he got a big laugh at. I also told him about son's Plan B -- NROTC scholarship to Va Tech. He was so enthusiastic and said, "either way, with that kind of plan B, your son has a bright future ahead." The lady behind me agreed, "Plan B sounds pretty awesome!"

We all need encouraging words like that now and again to keep things in perspective. We feel lucky our son has a solid Plan B. If our son's Plan B becomes Plan A, that really is great too. I'll cry just the same on that summer day we drop him off at his destination. We are so proud of him.

You should be CronusMom. These kids are so special. We have to remind ourselves that Plan B is an incredible opportunity!

HappyCamper - War Eagle!!!!! I'm a proud graduate  If USNA doesn't work out, PM me with any questions you have about The Loveliest Village on The Plains! Just curious- How does someone from CNY end up being interested in a school in Alabama?

We're Southerners (of the Louisiana variety) living in Central New York. DH was in the submarine service for 20 years. When he retired from the Navy he got a job in New York. The cold and snow are a little crazy for us. LOL!!!

DS applied to Auburn as one of his ROTC schools. He didn't get the ROTC scholarship (which baffles us a bit), but Auburn gave him a terrific academic scholarship, so we are taking them up on their offer. DS is thrilled at the thought of moving South again. I wanted him to go to my alma mater -- LSU -- but he wanted to go to Auburn, so Auburn it is. Will I be hated if I wear my purple and gold on campus???

Desire to serve trumps school loyalty

We too are waiting but looking at plan B. My wife and I both have degrees from Auburn and Alabama and we live in Tuscaloosa. However son's present plan B is Ole Miss because of academic scholarship offer and still the possibility of NROTC scholarship. I guess growing up in Tuscaloosa, he wanted to skip Auburn, but thought Ole Miss a good choice since Alabama has no NROTC. I find myself leaving work every day about the time the mail runs looking for BFE.

To all looking at their plan Bs, they are great alts. I'm currently at Norwich after TWE came last year. Its always an option to reapply to the Academy's after a year, its what I'm doing (yes I'm waiting still) but at least I know what to expect if another TWE arrives, finish at NU and commission anyway!

Smart son you got there. :shake:
Nah - don't worry about wearing purple and gold. But I would definitely stay away from houndstooth, crimson or anything that says, "BAMA" on it.
Yeah - those Auburn scholarships are pretty nice. DS got one and didn't even apply for it - they just sent it to him in the mail - full tuition! DS got the AROTC scholarship too, but my understanding at the time was that they had plenty to give and could get more. NROTC scholarships were not as plentiful.

My husband goes out and gets the mail today.

He comes in and, with a big smile on his face, lays a brown envelope from the Navy in front of me.

I looked at it for a second and then turned to him and asked, "Why are you giving this to me? It's addressed to you."

It was his official retirement papers from the Navy -- 20 years active duty/10 years fleet reserves. He was so disappointed!!! He thought for sure he had our son's appointment in his hands.

PSA: Please look at the return address before you get too excited about a big envelope. LOL!!!

Happy Camper I was so excited for you until I finished reading your post. That is just not right! argh. Hang in there. Good news will come.

The look on his face was like he had won the lottery or something. I felt so bad for him when he realized it wasn't what he thought it was.

Oh, well! At least it wasn't a TWE addressed to my son. That would have made me cry. And I've had a rough day today. That would have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
