THE week has arrived....

I do not have the answer to your question but I can tell you that all CGAS appointments have to email LT Rick Scott and let them know by April 15th if they are interested or not so most CGAS wait listers would be pulled at that point in time. Any others would be if someone changed their mind or didn't get through the medical.
Thank you, I already emailed them accepting my spot on the waitlist so I guess it's back to the waiting game.

But saying they are still interested and officially accepting aren’t the same. Everyone has until 1 may to make their official decision, and medical waivers can still come through up until 15 may. People were pulled from the wait list through at least the end of may last year.

If you don’t get pulled from the waitlist then would you accept USMMA or would you want to reapply to USCGA next year? If you would choose USMMA if you don’t get pulled from the waitlist, then I would wait until 1 may to accept, hoping you were pulled from CGA’s waitlist in April. If you are offered a spot after accepting USMM you can still call them and say you have changed your mind.

Hello, I have a question regarding the waitlist system. Hopefully someone could help me out.

I found out on March 31st that I was waitlisted for the CGAS program, however I received a full appointment to USMMA two weeks ago. I know that USCGA is my first choice and that the waitlist decisions won't come out until some time during May. My USMMA portal states that I must accept or decline my appointment by May 1st or else my appointment will be rescinded.

If I were to accept my USMMA appointment, but then later hear back from USCGA that I'm being pulled from the CGAS program waitlist, would I be able to back out of USMMA and attend CGAS being that I already accepted the USMMA appointment?

Thank you for the help.
From what I have read, you can accept your appointment to MMA, and then if you get pulled off the waitlist to CGA, then just let MMA know. It happens every year across all of the service academies. Every academy has people who change their mind last minute for whatever reason. It is best to notify them as soon as you make your decision to withdraw so they could possibly offer your spot to someone on their waitlist.

Thank you, this helped a lot.

My DD was denied. It's been a long wait and I think she was just relieved to have a final answer. As much as we were "hoping" for even a waitlist offer, knowing the door is closed for this year does help her turn her attention to Plan B and consider what's next. We have prayed for a clear answer and for God to open or close doors accordingly so we are all at peace knowing this is not her path. What she learned from the process however, from challenging herself and taking the most rigorous courses she could, taking extra classes her senior year while other seniors took modified schedules, to pushing herself phsically to be the most prepared she could-- that work ethic and effort will serve these young men and women for the rest of their lives. Congratuations to all the new cadets and CGAS scholars-- Good luck to everyone!

I am sorry to hear of the disappointment for THIS cycle.

After the dust settles a bit, and if she still feels called to service via the Coast Guard, I understand their Admissions team is very good about giving feedback about ways to improve next time around. Re-application shows determination, grit, resiliency and true desire. There are re-applicants at every SA, and way more than you would think. This is not the end until she decides her desire to serve has 100% evaporated.

I am so sorry. Praying her plan B brings her joy and fulfillment as she continues her journey! May God continue to guide and bless her new path.❤

I was also denied an appointment. I am keeping my fingers crossed for an appointment to USNA or USAFA. I did get awarded an AFROTC Scholarship, so I am working on my backup college plan. Congratulation to all those that received an appointment and good luck to the waitlisted candidates.

I am sorry...this process is so tough! So happy to hear you have a great Plan B...CONGRATULATIONS! 🥳 Hoping you hear great news soon from USNA (I'm still waiting too...CPR since September) and USAFA!! I wish you the best!

And he should also continue to prepare for his Plan B, whatever that is. If he doesn't get off the waitlist and he plans to reapply next year, then he should take classes that mimic the courses that 4/c cadets would take at CGA. He could even apply to self-prep at one of the CGAS schools.
If he's not pulled from the waitlist, I HIGHLY recommend a "self-prep" year at Marion Military Institute. MMI is where a lot of the CGAS students will be. They will provide Excellent support in your Son's pursuit of a USCGA appointment. He would enroll in the SAP (Service Academy Prep program). It is a jr college, with a Corp of Cadets. So he will earn college credits. They'll give you great scholarships too, for good HS GPA, etc... So it was quite a bit more affordable than State U, even though MMI was out of state for us. DS has had great results at MMI. As a self-prep currently, he has 3 offers of appointments. USCGA, USAFA, and USMA.
PM me for any questions. But otherwise reach out to Colonel Bowen at MMI. His info is on their website.

Hi all...Son finally was advised today/last night he is on the waitlist for CGAS program. What does that even mean for prospects? Of course he has already said yes he wants to be on the waitlist. Honestly we as parents could not have been more unprepared for this whole process and frankly my DS has been handling this process mostly on his own with support from his JROTC Cadre...only because we have no military background and weren't that helpful. Of course we are supportive. Any input so much appreciated.
I am currently at MMI as a self prep for uscga so if you have any questions you can pm me or head on over to my forum page under Prep schools to ask questions!

CGAS (prep) is just one of the offers so to speak, no one has an a full appointment and an offer to prep school. Prep school is used to strengthen the candidate in some way, some kids need an extra year to get them where they need to be math and science wise before heading to the academy, some are excellent candidates but need a higher PFE score. Prep is specifically for improvement, also though its the academy investing in you so if you do what you need to your chances to matriculate the next class is high. Waitlisted kids are kids the academy deems candidates for full admission, as a selective institution there are always more applicants than spots so thats where the waitlist comes in. As I understand it if you are waitlisted and don't get pulled from the waitlist you are able to reapply the next year EA which non-waitlisted re applicants can not do (double check this with your AO). Also, if you read the forums you will hear of people self prepping which means people go to the same institutions that the academy sends CGAS to, but on their own dime (or scholarships). This gives them access to the same curriculum the prep kids get, and an opportunity to improve their application to reapply. This was our daughters Plan B, and she would've been able to self-prep on full scholarship. Like I've mentioned before our DD was called from the waitlist late May last year. In meeting her shipmates I actually know more quite a few that were re-applicants either because of being waitlisted and not coming off the waitlist, or being denied for a waiver and encouraged to apply the next year in hopes a waiver spot would open. There are so many variables, bottom line if it's a no for now but your kid is still really feeling called to be at USCGA they should try again!
Thank you for taking time to give me a detail explanation.

I apologize if this has already been asked but if offered an appointment to CGAS are you informed at the time of the offer which school the offer is for? My DD is on waitlist for CGAS so want to better understand the process.

They ask the candidates for their preference and sometimes it’s honored and sometimes not from what I’ve understood. Like everything I’m sure there are specific reasons why certain kids are put in the different programs, one variable talked about a lot is athletics if they are a recruited athlete there may be a school preference by the coaches.
