Hi! My son is likely to be heading to the Academy this year, and CBT starts June 25th.

His grandfather wants to take him on a 10 day trip to Iceland as a graduation present. Is there anything incoming cadets would have to do before June 20th (his proposed return date) that would make this trip undoable?

Not as far as I am aware. We had people this year get back into the U.S. from Europe 3 days before reporting. I'm sure others will correct me if I am wrong. Most importantly, stay safe!

Sounds like a great idea, just don’t do anything illegal :) on a more serious note continue to exercise during the trip, 10 days can have an impact

Just make sure he has his admission packet complete before he leaves. Otherwise enjoy!

Going to Iceland this summer? OMG please bring warm clothes! We went there for 10 days in “the summer “ and we were freezing the entire time. Make sure he has waterproof outer coverings. The rain was coming in sideways and I swear sometimes it was coming up from the ground. Beautiful country and I would go back in a heartbeat now that I have the right clothing 😇 !! just make sure you have waterproof clothing for real. We were warned and didn’t take it seriously...I spent most of the time shivering.

Oh yes, and there is literally 20 hours of sunlight so bring some kind of a eye patch to sleep. It was bright as day at 11 PM at night 😳

Yes, yes, yes. There is a big difference among “water resistant,” “water repellent” and “waterproof.” The first two give up the ghost at a certain level of saturation. Ditto waterproof shoes/walking boots, and throw in some performance layers. I too have been to Iceland “in the summer.” Stunning geography, nice people, wet!

Iceland in the summer is far nicer than Iceland in the Winter.
Deployed there once...but didn't see much of it (except flying over !)

Visiting in the summer you get to see the puffins nesting but going in the winter you get to see northern lights 😍😍 looking forward to a return trip!
