The wheels of admissions are still turning!

DD just submitted her ap last night. She is hoping her AIM interview transfers over.

It doesn’t transfer over and replace the interview. Also, the interview this year is supplemental. Some people are asked to interview, others aren’t. I had an AIM interview and was requested to take a real one too. I’m pretty sure that it all just depends on if they’re unsure if they want you or not.

For many people including myself the AIM interview was the real one.
Really? I wonder why I (and many other people I’ve spoken to) had to take it twice then. I was asked different questions during the AIM and real one, and the real one lasted longer.

It probably depends on how much interaction you have had with admissions. When my DS applied for the class of 2024 he had lots of interaction with admissions; he had visited his AO, had been on an admissions tour, had been to AIM (back in the days when it wasn’t virtual) and had attended a Genesis event. He then received an email from one of AOs stating that he would be in x city on this date and if DS wanted an interview to let him know but it was optional. DS decided to attend the interview using the thought process then anytime you can get face time it anyone involved in the admissions decisions it should be seized.

It does appear that USCGA Admission Officers input on candidates have a lot of impact. A couple years ago, my DS met his USCGA Amissions Officer (who came out to our state to meet candidates), she later asked my DS to do a talk with her at a different Texas High School. He had attended AIM and she liked having him say a few words to the EA & RA Parents & candidates. He was appointed EA, but ended up choosing USNA. I think its good to engage the Admissions Officers. Good luck to all.

When he was offered an appointment how did you draw the conclusions that AOs input doesn’t have a lot of impact on admission decisions?

I believe they were actually trying to say the opposite.

That’s a really good observation. With Virtual AIM, I only spoke with the students in charge of my group and other AIMsters. I also never met with an AO during my visits. When asked to interview, the AO wanted to schedule it for either the day of or next day, so I had assumed that it was only because they couldn’t decide on my application; I applied EA and this was in November. I’m definitely not complaining that my AIM interview didn’t transfer over if it’s what led to my appointment. I agree with your DS. Every chance to speak with admissions is beneficial!

I think the AO DOES have considerable impact on a candidates viability. DS applied for Early Admission. I can't recall the month. The Admission s Officer said something like, I will put in a special note into his application file. DS also won the Award for best physical fitness while he was at AIM and the 06 in charge of admissions, brought him (and his female counterpart winner), on stage to recognize them. This also probably impacted his EA acceptance decision.

Agreed my DS won Male Honor Cadet when he was at AIM.

For those who went to AIM and were wondering about their interviews, my DD expressed concern about her interview to LCDR Soon Park. He told her to talk to her AO to "see if you need to have another interview".

I was deferred and just got requested for an interview today!
I gather from your post that you are getting the interview not requested during EA. Seems a positive move for you. Hope it goes well.

As far as AIMsters go, I think a new interview would be an advantage. A possible additional positive piece of data.

I’m sure admissions has a great deal of work to do and the wheels only slowed or stopped for a very brief time around the Holidays.

Things should start to pick up shortly with RA deadline and current CGAS prepsters submitting their applications this month!

Do RA appointment notifications begin to go out prior to the deadline for RA? Our DD received an email within the last week that her application was scheduled to be reviewed within the next two weeks. Thanks, and good luck!
