Our son Andrew is enrolled in army rotc as a freshman and this is the first time we have gone through the dodmerb process. He sought therapy advice while in high school for several sessions and we have provided the counselor’s summary of those sessions in response to the administrative ami. Our case manager wants even further details- apparently the raw notes- from the counselor which are hand written and would require considerable effort on his part to type up and collate. The counselor has already supplied a typed summary response. Shouldn’t this be good enough? Any advice appreciated.

MOM/DAD: Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;" Read paragraph #4.

APPLICANT: Send me an email:
lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; provide the text of your Parent's posting above to YOUR email. The subject line of the email should be “Akiba1964 -SAF Therapy session summary not good enough for AMI.“ Do NOT embed links in your email as I will not be able to view those.

NOTE: The answer is no. DoDMERB and all Service Academy and ROTC waiver authorities want a copy of the actual medical records...those that are subject to legal review against their licensure...summary letters are not and do not capture the required detail for DoD and Service medical providers to render informed decisions. Summary letter also allow for selected bias and reporting/non-reporting of critical indicators. I'm NOT saying that is the case with your son's provider...but I see it everyday for the past 30 years.:wiggle:

P.S. - Medical providers handwriting is notoriously bad...but for some reason, they can usually read what other providers provide. Hand written notes, can be submitted. If those are illegible, then the provider is not meeting the specifications of their state license:wiggle:

I'm in the same boat as Akiba1964 - except my summary letter from a counselor was initially accepted. I was DQ'ed on another issue, which I'm taking care of, but after getting a wavier they are telling me the letter is insufficient. @MullenLE, would I be able to email you my case as well? Thank you.
