There’s just one thing I still don’t understand

Now I understand that it might be a seemingly pointless question to ask. But I just can’t seem to wrap my head around the way that candidates are being reviewed. Clearly it isn’t traditional like most rolling applications as there are many of us who are CPR that have completed our app since September and many other candidates have already been accepted or even received a decision. If anyone can explain to me how the board goes about deciding which candidate becomes reviewed that would be helpful thanks.

Since you are compared against other candidates with the same nominating source, decisions usually can’t be made until each nominating “slate” is in. Add in the fact that many candidates have a variety of nominating sources and that further complicates the puzzle. They may even be waiting to see if accepted candidates decline their offer to see if a spot frees up. Lots of factors at play here. It’s easy to say just be patient, but that’s all you can do 😐

It was explained to me this way: You're reviewed. You are put into one of three "piles" -- Yes, No, Maybe. Each time the board reviews, they take a new batch and include the "maybes." My guess, is that the "maybes" all have aspects very similar to one another, but nothing that puts them "over-the-top" so-to-speak. So, these are the last puzzle pieces to get fit into the overall class.

I honestly don't think USNA issues many TWEs before the last 2 weeks of the admissions cycle. My first two kids received them around April 4th.

We had about a thread about this last year:

First year one came March 22, last year April 15. So yeah, I'd say that timeframe is a fair generalization.

May I ask how they were notified? Was their an email or did the portal just update?

You get notified when the portal updates . . . or something relatively close to that timeline.

From my experience, email.

It is indeed. Enjoy your senior year, make sure Plan B is operational, hug your loved ones often, avoid Covid-19. All those acts are meaningful, rewarding and generally in your control.

I don’t think CPR means hasn’t been reviewed yet.
> Correct.

I don't know where you got this information, but I've never heard this explanation, and I've attended several BGO training programs where the process is explained...in detail.

This isn't "traditional" rolling admissions...far from it. I've posted about the process , from Admissions Board through Noms and Appointments several times, this year alone.

Again, you should research the process to help you understand. While even the documentary shows the board "voting". it is not actually a simple yes or no. The board meets and deems you qualified or not. Once that determination is made, you sit in a pile waiting for your slate to be resolved. If you have multiple nominations then you sit on multiple slates. Once the slates are resolved you would then be considered for the next 150 off the NWL called additional appointees. After those 150 or identified, then you could also be considered in the next group called additional appointees. The other thing to keep in mind is that this steps are all happening at the same time and the final decision on where you are slotted could change through the process. Trust that admissions is working as fast as possible as they need to get the class filled so they can move on to start looking at the next year.

Perhaps I’ve never read this before but this is the best explanation I’ve seen yet. As parents anxiously awaiting news this is very helpful. Thank you.
