Things to buy for MS3 Year

Hello all,

DD has been made cadet CSM for the coming fall and is going into her MS3 year. What supplies/items that are not on the packing list would be fantastic for her? specifically stuff for the woods. We're trying to surprise her soon by buying her stuff to prepare for the year

Great opportunity for your daughter. Some people swear by Leatherman multi-tools, though they have a penchant for getting lost in the woods (the tools, that is). If you want her to make a strong impression, you could send a swagger stick, a black lacquered cigarette holder, and sunglasses with a silver reflective coating. Not on the packing list but necessities for all future generals.

Seriously, part of your DD's growth will be compiling lists and planning her own items to bring. Get her gift cards for REI and Amazon and let her build her own kit.

You will allow her to become a better officer.

I did buy our DS a wrist compass and a write in the rain notebook, but the rest was up to him.

I'd have opted for the oversize corn cob pipe.
 
This is my Top 4 recommendations for all CDTs (in no particular order):
1.) A watch - everyone needs one (don't need to get an expensive Apple watch or Fitbit; $35 Walmart special will do -- that's what I had for the longest time).
2.) Gloves (hot weather: SKD Patrol Incident Gear (PIG) Full Dexterity Tactical (FDT) Alpha gloves; cold weather: SKD PIG FDT Cold Weather gloves)
3.) Boots - everyone has their preference, there's not really one better than the rest; there's pro's and con's to each brand (I wear Rockys)
4.) Boot socks - upgrade from those standard issue cotton socks (I prefer Fox River)
