Thinning Hair Medication

DS is experiencing thinning hair as a MIDN 1C in NROTC. He wants to do something about it but is worried that if he uses a topical (or oral) medication such as Minoxidil that he will be disqualified from commissioning. Wanted to ask if this would happen. Didn't see Minoxidil listed as a banned or tested substance but don't want to take any chances. If he decides to try it should he ask permission or just go for it? Any suggestions are appreciated. The best suggestion possible ... MIDN 1 C should speak to his cadre. Now that he is in ROTC, he needs the ability to have direct communications with his leadership. If they don't know the answer, they will find out. That's how it works best. While your intentions are well founded, the transition has occurred....
