this board seems quieter this year than last, right?

One of my Biotechnology students just received his appointment to West Point. He’s still hoping to hear from USNA.

I’m sure it’s all in the teaching! Seriously, this Thanksgiving, as always, we are thankful for our teachers that are part of our kiddos formation. It’s a calling! Takes a special person.

I would imagine there are still a lot of people who mostly lurk and never post. The same questions get asked seasonally here every year, so there aren't really that many new topics to cover. Typically, you find the answers to the most commonly asked questions by reading prior posts. While some information may be updated, a lot of the basic information hasn't changed. I don't consider the number of new posts to be an indicator of anything significant.

I'm a little surprised that there haven't been more Presidential appointments yet for any academy. Usually there are a few by this time.

I teach four subjects while my medical sciences colleagues teach one. I credit my experience as a Navy Corpsman qualifying me for that. My Biotech kids are mostly superstars with two receiving early admission to Va Tech School of Engineering for Biomedical and one to VT School of Science for neuro science I believe. The remainder of my students are mostly ESOL and SPED with lots of recent immigrants. I get more reward helping those find a post secondary path than the Biotech kids.

Thanks Doc and to the all the teachers out there.

I had the honor last week of sitting on one of our MOCs local nom boards. We had 6 of us interview about 25 candidates. All of them were great kids. Of the 25 there were about 12-15 who all have very legit chances of receiving of an appointment. They were an impressive group. I had fun getting to know them and ask them questions.

I haven’t checked, but it does appear quieter in terms of the number of appointments. Usually we get our first one in August or Sept for a candidate with an early LOA and Presidential.

How long does Complete Pending Review Status last?? Do they even tell you are denied?? Why keep one waiting if they have reviewed it??

You could be CPR until Apr 15th. You will not know if you have been reviewed. You could be already or you might be in Feb. Its not first in, first to be reviewed. So even if your MOC has submitted their slate, let’s say they submit an unranked slate. USNA is going to give all those candidates on that slate a shot to complete their app by the deadline. Unless you have stats that are so unbelievable that USNA is confident you will win that slate or will have a high enough score to get appointed off the NWL, then it’s sit and wait. Having your app reviewed is only one part. It then goes to the Noms and Appts group. They are putting together the giant puzzle. If you decide fo go down the military path... the entire system is about hurrying up and waiting. If you spend a career in the military you will wait for so many things. Throw in a family with waiting and it can make things challenging. Oh you were told you were selected for duty station A state side... 30 days later it might be duty station B which is now overseas and you have a 2 year old. Focus on Plan B, C and D. Go have fun. You only do senior year once.

Very true. My son was supposed to go to TBS as an SPC after his first operational command. That got my wife and me all giddy as we live just through the woods from Camp Barrett. He got an ORDMOD to CENTCOM Forward and spent a year in the Middle East. Surely that would lead to a sweet B billet and he got orders to MCIOC at Quantico. Giddiness again ensued. The same thing happened. He was sent to the 1st Marine Division instead. He is finally on his first B billet. A B billet where he has spent more time in the field than he did in the fleet. He’s a coyote at the tactical training exercise control group at 29 Palms.

So, yeah, be patient because soon you may just get what you ask for.
