Eagle36: where did that John Carroll come from ??? Reminds me of that old kiddie song: "Some of these things belong together..."

fencer..the song was one of these things by Sesame Street:shake:

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others

By the time I finish my song?

The only thing I really wanted to add to nice thread, is intended for those who either got on a wait list or didn't get accepted this year at all. Hopefully many of them are reading this thread.

I think this thread is important for 1 very important reason. The quality and caliber of those who apply to the Air Force Academy; and other academies; ranks up there with the Ivy Leagues and Big Name Private Schools. Those completing and didn't get accepted probably also got accepted to some very nice schools. Just like those who posted in this thread. That alone should encourage those who didn't get accepted this year. Realize that you too are a very talented and quality individual. Realize that you have made a lot of options for yourself. Realize that only 1300-1400 out of 10,000 can receive an appointment; and if you didn't get one it's probably not that you don't deserve one; just that they can't take everyone. But if you got accepted to numerous schools like everyone else who applies seems to have; then you have a lot to be proud of.

Definitely further your education with one of the fine schools that also accepted you. Re-evaluate you desire to serve your country as an officer. Consider re-applying starting in June. "You already know the process". And if not; then consider ROTC when you get to your college. Either way; best of luck to you all.

Sorry for taking this thread off topic. Just thought that it provided an excellent example of the high quality of students who are applying to our Air Force Academy and other academies. later... mike......

There is just so much involved in getting accepted to not only the academies; but also civilian colleges. Most people don't realize what's involved in getting accepted. Too many people think that college is some normal "Consumer Commodity". "If I'm willing to pay for it, they should HAVE to Sell it to me". Unfortunately, just like the academies, there's usually a lot more applicants than there is room for students. So they have to weed the applications out. In a 2 year period, 2006-2007 I saw:

1. Applicant denied Harvard, Yale, and Stanford; accepted at Air Force Academy.
2. Applicant turned down by Air Force Academy and Navy; turned down for ROTC scholarship; ACCEPTED to MIT. (Received partial scholarship via Private Scholarship). Final cost to him was less than In-State university.
3. Applicant goes to Summer Seminar, kind of like it, not sure, given EARLY appointment in October-November. Decides against the academy and has early acceptance to Princeton and takes a private full ride scholarship.

This was just 3 individuals that I knew somewhat directly. Many have learned that there is a system to getting accepted to and getting scholarships to college. Many have even told me of their success. I am very happy for you. But as I said in the previous post; your education is about one of the most important things in your life. For those who don't get accepted to the academy; or choose to turn down an appointment; make the most of your education. There's a lot of great schools out there. And if you got this far in the academy process, then you are definitely eligible for some top notch schools in the country. And if you're flexible, then the money is there also. Best of luck to all of you. later... mike.....

My mom went to Creighton and played basketball there... and my past baseball coach when I was younger is the head coach for the Creighton baseball team. It's expensive though.

Notre Dame is good too...lol
