Three dead plus a dead shooter aboard NAS Pensacola

Two friends with sons there, one was in the building, one was on his way. Both moms are physically ill this morning with the news 😓

Just heard on the news that the shooter was a member of the Saudi military and they are now investigating this as possible terrorism.
I know a few ensigns there.

DS called, happened in his building during muster. He is pretty freaked out.

Prayers to you and all. Our NJROTC unit goes to NAS Pensacola every spring to compete in Navy Nationals. We will be there in April. This hits close to home.

Praying for victims and their families. Hoping this incident will spark a reexamination of the wisdom of training Saudis in Pensacola alongside our SNA's. They are routinely given preference in flight hours over our own SNA's, and saying that most of the Saudis are not safety conscious is an understatement. Now with this incident, it looks even worse.

The Saudis should be hugely embarrassed, assuming they cleared this officer to attend training. Wonder if the families can sue for civil reparations. No doubt lawyers are already thinking about that. But there is no amount of money that can fill an empty hole in the heart.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I went through something similar a few years ago when my husband called to say there was an active shooter at his military facility. We're praying for all of them in Pensacola. We lived across the street from the shooting just a few months ago.

IMHO it is long past time to reconsider the policy against carrying on base. How many of these incidents need to occur before we give our highly trained soldiers the same right to defend themselves that we enjoy when walking down the street.

Admittedly I don’t know much about this but boy am I angry. I don’t get it.

I flew dozens of Saudi flight students during my tour as an IP at Whiting Field.

As part of DOD supporting DOS national diplomacy goals through foreign military sales and training, fostering relationships between militaries of friendly forces, this has been around a long time. There were Iranians (Shah era) at OCS with me. There are international cadets and midshipmen. There are foreign officers on exchange duty at SAs and elsewhere. We’ve been bitten by someone we welcomed into our military home.

The obvious question is should we ever risk this again? This cost seems too much for whatever we get.

Shah era Iranians are great people ... it is sad what has happened there.
