In April 2023, after the regular admissions appointments were made for the USCGA Class of 2027, the CGA Alumni Assn. hosted a Lunch and Learn Discussion with CAPT Michael Fredie ‘96, Director of Admissions.

CAPT Fredie shared insights to the application and appointment process while discussing data about students accepted to the CGA Class of 2027. He also gives advice for those not accepted to the CGA, waitlisted candidates and future applicants. Building a class of cadets is an extremely meticulous process!

For reference: After all of the appointments and DoDMERB clearances, 300 appointees reported on Day One of Swab Summer 2023.

Good luck to all Class of 2028 applicants!

For any current or future applicants (or their parents), this Lunch and Learn is one that you want to watch. It is VERY INFORMATIVE about what CGA is looking for in a candidate. It also is helpful in understanding how CGA builds each years class. People always wonder why one person was chosen over another, especially when it gets down to the final selections or in who is selected (if any) off of the wait list. Capt Fredie goes into a lot of detail. At ~41:30 he even presents a spreadsheet which shows CGA's goals for building the class of 2027 and whether they succeeded. It breaks it down by states, majors, and sports, but Capt Fredie talks about other factors as well (obviously academics and leadership). There is another slide that provides percentages of male/female, ethnicity, early action vs regular, recruited athletes, musical recruits, AIM attendees, etc.. It is definitely worth the time to watch.
