Well folks, it's Falcon Football time again. And with that, comes THUDGATE. The largest college football tailgate West of the Mississippi. We've even been visited and promoted on ESPN College Gameday. Yes, we're that big. On days like parent's weekend or the Army/Navy games, we can surpass 300 visitors at our tailgate. To think....... this is my 10th season at Thudgate, and my first year, there was maybe 20 of us. Prior to that year, it was the traditional tailgate out of the back of the pickup truck.

Thudgate isn't a serviceacademyforums tailgate, but quite a few members of this forum do visit thudgate. Also, the forum's admin/management has sponsored many Thudgate weekends. So we have a very close relationship.

Anyway; Thudgate is named after one of our founder's father "General George Simler". Not only was he an F-105 Thud Pilot, but in his career, he was also the athletic director at the academy at which time HE implemented the "Commander in Chief Trophy" games between Air Force, Army, and Navy. (Factoid: Air Force has won the MOST games / trophy possessions among the 3 academies).

But even though it's named after General Simler and his Thud (F-105) aircraft; and we celebrate and cheer on our Falcon Football team; Thudgate is also a time that our "AIR FORCE FAMILY" gets together. We celebrate those who HAVE served and IS serving currently. We end each tailgate with a TOAST to those who served before us. We've honored many of those no longer with us. We honor our cadets and the men and women who put their life on the line for us every day.

If you'd like to join us, you're more than welcome. If you want, you can bring something. We have multiple grills going and everyone chips in. We have all the drinks, including a FULL STOCKED BAR. If you can't bring anything, we have a donation jar; so don't feel out of place. Even if you want to just stop by for a minute and say hi, I'd like to put some faces to some names. The forum members who are Non-Virgins with Thudgate, you know where I'll be. Come stop by. For those of you wanting to just stop by, the directions are easy. We are in the closest parking lot right outside of the SOUTH ENDZONE, just off to the east. (Towards the main parking lot/field). We have 4-5 BIG BLUE and WHITE storage containers for all our stuff; and we'll have our big USA Flag and THUDGATE Flag flying. When you get there, just ask for "Mike from Wyoming". (Sorry; but there's like 5 Mike's in our crowd.) I'm the only one from Wyoming.

Hope to see you you all out there. I know many of you will be at your cadet's tailgates and such; but thudgate Is a good central place for other Serviceacademyforum members to meet each other.

See you Saturday.

Mike

Glad to have seen all my Thudgate buddies at the VMI opener!
Was tailgating with CS27 and visiting some of our Georgia Doolies in other squads beforehand, but did get a good visit with the core group afterwards!
Looking forward to seeing all again on the 23rd!
Edward
