Quick reminder. Parent's weekend is almost here. That also means Opening day for Falcon Football and the biggest and best tailgate party west of the mississippi. THUDGATE.

A great way to start the season off and for many on this forum to get a chance to meet one another. I will provide a map of our location among all other tailgates and more info. Looking forward to meeting you all at parent's weekend and at all the other games. Mike....

Local Map of Thudgate

Here's a map of Falcon Stadium Parking lot, and where Thudgate is located. Below the picture, is a link to some pictures of Thudgate in 2010. Various games.

For those of you (Parents, Candidates, Interested parties, Cadets) that have NOT been to "Thudgate" and have the opportunity...

GO!!!

It is amazing! It's run by many folks, CC being one of the BIGGIES there. I met him finally a couple of years ago...and last year...he introduced me to the guy that the event is sorta named for (actually after his father) and it turned out to be a HS classmate of mine!! I hadn't seen him in over 30 years! :wow:

And yes, it was a great reunion! Well, it WAS, until some guy named Steve Ritchie showed up and occupied my classmates time!

THUDGATE...a great place to meet folks from this forum and many others!!

BUMP!!!

Hope to see everyone there. Great way to get to know your "Air Force Family". Spread the word across the Land!!!

Thudgate

As the parents of a C3C, I'd like to chime in on Thudgate. Last year (obviously our first year) we followed Christcorp's announcements about Thudgate and planned to stop by. We got to the parking lot around 9:30am and walked over to the RV's and awnings of Thudgate. We were immediately welcomed and joined the party. Over the next two hours we met many of the icons on this forum, fellow C4C parents, and overall had a wonderful time. The food was excellent and the toast to the host (with Jeremiah Weed) was memorable. It was one of the best parts of parents weekend. Everyone was so friendly. It was the first time that we felt part of the greater air force family. I strongly urge folks to attend, say hi, and meet many of the folks that make up this forum. If I could make one suggestion: Bring a name tag, preferably one with your forum name or avatar. See you there!!

Oh--was it named after a F-105 driver, as in "Thud," short for F-105 Thunderchief?

That is correct. Thudgate is named after one of the founder's father. His father was a THUD driver. One of his many assignments was also the athletic director at the air force academy. He also lead the campaign for establishing the Commander In Chief Trophy. He was in WWII through Vietnam.

Thudgate here we come!

We are *finally* getting to attend our first game at Air Force, after years of games at both Army and Navy. We are very excited to see the Academy for the first time. Learn how the other half lives! (Other third? Quarter? Whatever.) We are coming for the Army game and would love to stop by and visit. We will be wearing Go Army buttons for sure, but here is the deal: if you let us attend, I offer you my 9-year old to recruit the hell out of. He currently wants to be Maverick, of a certain 80’s film, so he’s all yours if you can convince him to go Air Force instead of Navy!

no problem. And yes, you are definitely invited. All opposing teams/fans are invited, especially our brothers/sisters with the other academies.

For those wondering where we are, besides the map I provided, you will most likely see this flag, or a combination of.

NAVY? Who cares! Just make sure our 9-year-old has a good foundation in STEELER FOOTBALL. :)

ChristCorp: Same deal as last year? Bring what we can if we're able (and want to do so?)? I'm planning to spend A LOT more time at Thudgate this year than last, so want to make sure I bring what's needed or most appreciated!

Don't want to be a Debby Downer but the preliminary forecast for Sat Sept 3rd at USAFA is 71* and raining. Which, after last year's bake-a-thon, might indeed be a welcome change, but still! Note to God: it's my one day a year cheering on any other team (besides my beloved Steelers). Rain? REALLY?

(Stay away in case of lightning strikes!)

Forecasters have enough trouble figuring out what the weather here will be like 12 hours from now, let alone 11 days from now. I'm not holding my breath.

Here's some links to thudgate. If you're able to bring something, that's great. If not, at least bring yourself. All is welcome.

this link is for this year. Map, list of things to bring if you can, etc...

This link is from last year's thudgate 2010. (Mind you, we are active at ALL home games. And many away games like Wyoming and CSU). Plenty of pics. Including guests from Navy and even the air force cheerleaders come by usually. You'll see that with about 100+ tailgates going on, ours is pretty big.

Just for you Mike.

I saw a commercial that Weed is now being sold in cans like Hard lemonade. Maybe you want to buy some of them and let the faint of hard try that instead of pure Weed.

http://www.jeremiahweed.com/

Weed and lemonade or ice tea, I can't see, cola I can. Just thinking about the taste makes me quiver...I wonder if you can freeze those cans. Afterall, drinking weed warm would not be pleasant at all. :barf:

Sacreligious woman!!!!!
Actually, I've tried it. Yuk. But I'm sure some will be there.

I have to be honest, I am probably one day, when I remember to hit the ABC, buying one just to try it. Or maybe I should look for it in the grocery store (they sell wine and beer there) next to MD 20/20.

I just can't imagine this tasting good at all just from a consistency perspective.

Oh I get it now why they did it ...seeing as Weed tastes like cough syrup and everybody needs something to wash cough syrup down, they just decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

I also know what to send you as a Xmas present... a case of weed in a can! :shake: Knowing you, you wouldn't even let passed your front door.

They make about 3-4 different flavors. Tea, lemonade, etc... My wife likes a couple of them. I tried it. No thanks. I think I "washed" the taste down with some of my good 18 year old Malt Scotch. Can't remember. But I definitely won't try it again. Now; regular Weed Bourbon.... That's another horse. Can't drink a lot of it. (Nobody can). But one or two shots, I'm all up for that.

Gosh.... 6 more days... I'm so excited. See the kid again. (Well, living 2 hours away, I sort of see him a lot anyway). Falcon FOOTBALL starts. Get to see "THE FAMILY". (All my Air Force Brothers and Sisters at Thudgate). And...

"A Toast to the Host".

Ick on the warm Weed... now that would be just like cough medicine but worse.

I can't wait to see y'all, but really can't wait to see one of my guys whom I haven't seen but for two days in March (since when does the girl friend get dibs on him?)!

Tickets for the nosebleed section printed and ready to go, getting clothing etc ready to pack. Still can't believe I'm on a 7 am flight!

CC: you know how jealous I am that you are so close?

Yea; but we were holding our breath as my son was considering his other offers to Michigan State, Tulane, and a couple others. It's nice that he had so many options, but he said that as long as air force was available, none of the others were really an option. It's nice being so close, but there are disadvantages. (Like the entire first 2 years, having the boy call and see if we would pick him up almost every weekend). That got old. Football season we were down there and he was with the team; but in the spring he wanted to come home almost every weekend. It was nice when he was allowed a car.

Here's a question for Parents Weekend regarding parking:

Sons are leaving the car for us at our hotel or meeting us Thursday night (not sure which yet), and we'll return them to USAFA Thurs after dinner, and Dad and I will then drive to the Academy Friday morning. Since it's THEIR car, and they have a pass, do *I* need a parking pass for Friday?
