Well, it's that time of year again. THUDGATE!!! For those who don't know, it's about the largest tailgate west of the Mississippi. Every home football game (and most away games) we have one hell of a tailgate. First game is parent's weekend. Hope to see you all there. There will be a lot going on, so here's some pics of our location. Try and stop by.

:unhappy: Bah I would love to go but I worked out with my DS and my ex-wife that she'll go this Parents Weekend while he's at Prep. She struggling with the whole learning to let go thing.

But God willing I get his C4C year! I think I might have got the better deal other than waiting to meet CC and few others in person for a change.

Booze, go anyway. There will be lots of times in your DS' life when BOTH his parents will have to be there, being civil, and loving him!

As always you give the best advice! But at last only one of us has learned to be civil even after MANY years (sic. 12 years) of divorce and having one less thing to stress about for him at this point the better. It was a decision my DS and I came to when he got his phone back the weekend BMT ended. So it's not me making this decision based on her behaviors its what he felt he was best for him. Also don't want to be a Helo-Dad so I left it to his choice but I did broker C4C year :thumb:

Granted there are times where she can go stick it such as graduation, marriage and grand kids!

Might just go to the game and Thudgate anyway. I live in Denver so I go to a couple of games a year. I just felt weird stopping by Thudgate previous years kind of like my son's not there yet haven't earned my stripes as a parent yet to swing by. Not that any of you would make me feel that way or have made me feel that way it was an internal thing to me.

GO TO THUDGATE!

"Mike" and "Mike" and the rest of the amazing crew there are, well...they're amazing!!!

I will be there for the Boise State game...trying to find a way to get to the Navy game and one other as well...not sure yet...

Definitely all is invited. Booze, if you're in Denver, there's no excuse. Hell; my son graduated the academy in 2012 and I still go to EVERY Thudgate. Season ticket holder. This is my "FAMILY". That's what the air force is all about. Family helping family. Spending Time together. Serving together. Living life together. And sometimes we have to mourn together. My son and daughter knew "our" family wasn't like most others. It extends beyond parents, children, cousins, etc. It's a different kind of "Blood".

This is what "Thudgate" is all about. It's remembering our brothers and sisters who served in the past; those serving now; and those no longer with us. It's really hard sometimes to explain. While Steve (Flieger) and I are indeed good friends and know each other, it goes beyond that. Just like even though I've never met Bullet and Pima in person, there's an automatic family relationship there. If I was heading back to the east coast and got stranded or ran into problems, I know I could call and they'd be there for me. Just like I wouldn't think twice if any of them was coming cross country and wanted to stop in Cheyenne. They'd have a bed, food, family, and Dr. Weed waiting for them.

Anyway; you are part of this family. Just like every other cadet, military member, and their family. I understand the complications with the "X". But the way I see it; you can make up for it by buying tickets to the remaining 5 home games. LOL!!! That's 5 THUDGATES and time to spend with your son. Hope to see you there.

Oh; and Steve...... Glad you're making Boise. That's going to be fun. First time they are in our house. They are also a very respectful crowd. "I Miss BYU fans". Anyway; I'll be thinking of you opening game.

Everyone is invited. Hope to see you all there. Mike.....

Thanks to all of you that put "Thudgate" together!

One of the highlights of attending Parents' Weekend each year is the opportunity to see all of you amazing folks at THUDGATE... Mike- (Christcorp) you are amazing- and it has been so fun to meet the man who has single-handedly taught me more about USAFA, DODMERB, how to fight for waivers, and how to encourage your cadets to have the "right attitude" so that they can fully embrace all of the opportunities and challenges that USAFA will present during their four years as cadets. Your advice and help has been priceless...and I still think that you should write a book. ALL of your advice is helpful, and I know it proved to be invaluable for the parents as well as for all of our cadets. For those of us who do not come from a military background, there was a great deal to learn even about all of the acronyms that are used so frequently. Before my son left for BCT in 2012- he printed your list of "emotions" that cadets face from excitement to fear to dread to exhaustion etc. It is still something I enjoy reading and it sent my son to his new life with a big smile on his face...because of your words of wisdom. My son is now starting his C2C year and is still so grateful to be attending USAFA. He is a very proud and enthusiastic cadet. Attitude has a lot to do with how the cadets truly view their years as cadets. Thankfully your advice continually encourages our cadets to be better, and strive further, and to accept the obstacles and continue to move forward... THANK YOU MIKE for everything you do for all of us. I (for one) am blessed and thankful to now know you in person too. Batmom

Christcorp is right!!! Go!!! Let the EX have the post game with the son, but go to THUDGATE! And hellsbells, you live in stinking DENVER... buy the season tickets

We're all agreed it's not STEELER football, but hey, that's not till SUNDAY.

:)

Darling, you are too nice. I appreciate all the kind words. I only wish I could be on the forum as much as I use to be. Seemed like after I got the last batch of candidates through the process the new applicants start. I've got 9 candidates for the 2019 class. Plus, with work and trying to have a family like; (Empty nest is GREAT by the way); I just don't have as much time as I use to. But hopefully you and many others will be able to come to thudgate and we'll get a chance to relive memories and talk about the new exciting adventures our cadets and officers are having. Thudgate is all about our "Air Force Family"; and that's what we are. Look forward to seeing you again.

And "Mamma De La Fencer". (Spanglish for Fencermother - LOL). The steelers need their fans. But I'll have to keep my Broncos, Cowboys, and Giants ahead of them on the cheering scale. Hee Hee. Later..... Mike......

That's 5 THUDGATES and time to spend with your son.

So you get to hang out with them for a bit at each game? I thought that was for only Parents weekend?

I am making plans to go to Boise game. My brother in-law (I remarried) is a huge fan trying to get him to come down from Idaho for that one. So planing on the Boise/Navy/CSU games this year. See you guys at Thudgate!

All football games are mandatory for cadets to attend. They usually get to the stadium a couple hours early. Each squadron has their own tailgate but the cadets are free to roam around. Many of them that have gone through this forum wind up at Thudgate for a liitle while too. Some have become regulars every game. You can spend a couple hours before every game with them tailgating. Not sure of all the prep school kids. I know they don't all come to the games but there's a large contingent there for each home game.

Thanks for the info CC.

And for purposes of the Prep people out here. The Prep can buy season tickets (my son has his) so I know they'll be at the game.

See you at Navy Game

Cris and I will miss you all at Parent's Weekend Thudgate. Aside from seeing our cadet the last 4 years, attending Thudgate was always a highlight of Parents Weekend. However, you haven't seen the last of us. We're coming to the Navy game and we're already looking forward to seeing you all.

Sounds good guys. Just cause our cadets move up and get commissioned, doesn't mean we don't spend time together as an air force family. While we don't get to see our son as much any more; maybe 3-4 times a year; our next favorite time is to get back with my air force family at Thudgate. Looking forward to seeing you at the navy game. mike.....

Attention all parents able to attend PW

If you are at Falcon Stadium for any home football game, you HAVE to stop by and visit Thudgate. You won't regret it (with the possible exception of the Jeremiah Weed).

FYI. Our glorious admin "Tactical Nuke" has sent me a new shipment of "Service Academy Forum" business cards. I'll be bringing these to Thudgate. I'd like to hand out a stack to each of you who will be there. Please hand them out to anyone that you think might be interested in our forum.

This forum is a wealth of knowledge. It has helped countless individuals through the academy/rotc application process. And it's not because a few individuals and their contributions. It's because of everyone on the forum. Applicants, current cadets, ALO's, parents, visitors, and those just interested. The culmination of all the opinions and perspectives is what has made this forum the best on the internet for those interested in receiving a commission in OUR United States Military.

So, if you get the opportunity to come to Parent's weekend and the football game; PLEASE stop by Thudgate. Have something eat or drink and look me up. And definitely take some cards that you can hand out to your cadet and those back home. When you ask for me, it's best to ask for "Mike from Wyoming". We have a LOT OF MIKE's at Thudgate. See you soon. Mike.....

Thanks to Christcorp connecting us with Thudgate, Service Academy Forums® has arranged to provide some of the food at the Parents' Weekend game next Saturday. We're excited and honored to be a part of this tradition bringing together members of the Air Force and military community.

Please make sure to stop by and enjoy this great event, as well as meet some fellow forum members. We will have a banner up and, as Christcorp said, we'll also have business cards available for you to help share about the forum.

I would like to thank Christcorp for coordinating our involvement with Thudgate. We're very excited about being able to give back to our community.
