Thudgate - Parent's weekend - All Home Games

Mike - we can't wait! As Presidents of our local Parents' Club, we've made everyone aware of the wonderful folks who put on Thudgate. We may have a few new friends stop by. Go Falcons!!

can't wait to see the "Thudgate" crew again. this will be my third year attending PW, only one more to go, and i have enjoyed meeting everyone at the best tailgate party. See you all this saturday. GO FALCONS!!

I'm in reverse. This will actually be the 1st Thudgate/Parent's Weekend where I don't have a kid at the academy. Weird feeling. We're use to going to his classes on friday; going to the game/thudgate on saturday; then spending the rest of the weekend with them. This year; after the game, the Wife and I have a suite with a jacuzzi for 2 nights in Blackhawk. Time to go spend some of that money we saved from college tuition on the slots and poker table. :thumb:

When you REALLY put it all together re: THUDGATE...there's but one thing to remember...

Putting Mike Simler, my HS classmate and superiorily good guy, aside...

WEED!!

'nuff said!!

That reminds me. I only have 2 bottles left. I need to hit the class VI tomorrow. Normally, I buy a case to start. That usually gets us through the first half of the season. We go through about 3-4 bottles per tailgate. Not that we drink a lot, just that when a tailgate averages 100-200 people per tailgate, you go through a lot of weed. Plus, I always have a few bottles at home. I take those to the away games like to wyoming or colorado state. We are also going to the san Diego game this year. We'll see our son Jeremy who's at RAND at grad school. Trying to get all 9 of the lieutenants there to go to the game in san Diego.

Bump to remind folks to look at the FIRST POST in this thread. It has the MAP at the academy where Thudgate will be set up. Hope to see you all there. Mike....

My first Parents Weekend spent "Back in the 'Burgh" with NO STEELER FOOTBALL!:bang: Had no idea idea how strongly I would miss the classes, meeting other parents, putting names to faces (though some of the cadets had some pretty "sick" nicknames).

Have fun at Thudgate all! Raise a glass to the class of 2012 !

It's ok if you raise a glass, too, for a Steeler victory over Denver on Sept. 9th. :shake:

Weed

It was a pleasure to be at Thudgate just in time for the "Toast to the Host." Also, I want to give a shout out to CC, Pima, Flieger and others for the warning about how terrible weed tastes. It was a pleasure to finally meet CC, Batmom, and MikeandChris. Parents of Cadets: If you can make it to PW, Thudgate is a must see!

It was definitely a pleasure to meet you also. As well as all the other.

FWIW: I'm one of the few people that actually LIKES the taste of weed. Mind you; I wouldn't sit there and drink a lot of it or make it a favorite after dinner drink. But having the occasional toast or two I like it quite fine.

Actually; Steve (Flieger) got to thudgate a little late. Right after the toast. I couldn't let him be cheated out of that, so I took him to our car where we put the leftover weed and we had another toast so he could join in.

Anyway; glad you were able to make it. Hope to see everyone at some more football games and parent's weekends. Mike....

Does Thudgate ever travel?
Say - to the USMA-USAFA game at WP this year?

Yes, we travel. Do we make it to all the away games? No; not practical. We usually try to have a good contingent for the away academy games. e.g. Navy. Also; for away "Local" games like Wyoming or CSU depending on who's home and away. This year there's quite a few going to the San Diego State game.

When it gets closer to the army game, I'll let you know if we're planning on a "Thudgate". Mike.....

Thoroughly enjoyed Thudgate again this year. Terrific to finally meet Dad, Batmom, and sorry we just missed Flieger this time. We'll be at the Army game at West Point, probably attending the AOG tailgate if there's no Thudgate - hope to see others from the forum there. Hoping to make it to San Diego as well. Gotta love Falcon football!!

Mikeandcris - traveling from CA to NY for an away football game? Now that's a fan! :thumb:
I plan on being there too! Anyone got a tailgate we can crash?

Sounds like you all had a great time! I'm curious... where did the name "Thudgate" come from?

Obviously the "GATE" comes from "Tailgate". One of our founding members father was an air force general. He was also the athletic director at the academy and helped establish the commander in chief trophy. But most importantly, he was an Air Force pilot, flying the F-105. Nicknamed: "Thud". He served in WWII through the Vietnam war. This great patriot/general died in a plane accident in 1972. The original tailgate remembered and honored Lt. General George Simler. But in time, it was realized that "Thudgate" would honor all the men and women who served our country and paid the ultimate price with their life. That it would also honor all those that have served and are serving our great country today. Below is a basic wiki on George Simler.

And a FINE toast it was!!!!

The SAD part...I will be returning for the CSU game with 50 Air Force JROTC cadets!!! That's not the sad part; the SAD :bang: part is that as a "school chaperone" I can NOT partake of the toast!!!

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! :bang:

BUT...it'll still be great to see CC and others!!! :thumb:

And his son, my high school classmate, is a "class act" too!
(although I had to ask him about the kilt last year... )
