I’m leaving for I-Day on June 23rd and have received my confirmation number. However, I do not have a ticket number and the email from Sato was very vague. I have an itinerary and number but no tickets. I checked it on the United app and my reservation shows up as confirmed but I do not have any ticket number. I tried to email Sato but I’m not sure which email to send it to. I have sent a copy of my authorization to travel and my travel orders through the official Sato website contact section and to the email provided in the portal but I haven’t received any response. Just want to know who to call or what to do so I can make sure I actually have tickets for next week.

The confirmation number is what you need. You should be able to go onto United and confirm everything and you may be able to select seats if you wish. Use the # to check in 24 hrs before the flight per usual.

^^^ This - the days of getting actual tickets are long over, as long as you can log in to the airline website and see your reservation/select seats you are good to go. Usually an additional notification/itinerary with ticket numbers goes out 3 days before your flight, but you shouldn't expect anything else before then, and Sato may not even do that anymore.

What if I can't select my seats? I'm flying American and they haven't given me the option. I've reached out to Sato, but I haven't heard anything.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't American charge for any pre-selected seat no matter where it is? I imagine the government probably doesn't want to foot that bill.

It could well be the classic military contract fare - seat selection at the airport. You know what that means: middle seat, seat just forward of the galley, etc. You can call American direct with your confirmation number; they will be able to tell you if you have the option to select seats in advance based on your fare type.

Alright, I give them a call. Thanks for your help.

I don’t mean to be Debbie Downer, but I have truly “been there,” on active duty. Paper voucher from SATO with just a flight time, confirmation number and fare type, show up at the American counter, given a seat. DOD has contracts with major carriers for the rock-bottom prices on least-favored seats and routes. Non-stop, hah. One-stop, nah, multiple stops, of course. Short layovers, hah. Just go with the flow.

Always, always be nice to counter and gate personnel, ask them if they have any flexibility for a better seat. This will work better when you are in uniform and look exhausted.

It's possible you won't be able to and they will be gate-assigned. My DS was able to select a seat on one leg only (of a 3-leg flight). But the important part is he has an itinerary with a confirmation number, which sounds like what you have. If you go on the American site and use your confirmation # and/or record locator to pull up your itinerary you are good to go.
