And? What do you think is "outrageous" about this? More important, why do you perceive this information as somehow negative?

Do you know when STEM was begun? It's purpose? Do you perceive this as random? Coincidence? Serendipity?

Are you familiar with the history and purpose of STEM academies more generally?

Are you?

The STEM initiative is not limited to USNA. It's also being pushed for NROTC and OCS ascensions. To me, it makes more sense that the Navy wants more STEM-educated officers, not that it's a harebrained scheme to get more minorities in the engineering field (for what purpose? Why use the Navy?).

If you want to discuss your theories farther, I'll gladly take it to PM. In particular I'd like to hear where you're getting your mystery "numbers and facts" and why you think yourself so much more informed (especially than those of us who hold the diploma, the commission, and the ring). As it is, don't spam kids' (and parents', I guess) innocent questions about whether they should lie about wanting to study English in college.

My observations are all based purely on the numbers and ensuing research.

Would LOVE to see that research. Almost seems appropriate, when citing research and discussing STEM issues, to actually provide the cited research.

Folks, this thread has veered off topic. The OP's question has been answered and the ongoing discussion is not related to that topic. For this reason, the thread will be closed.

If you want to discuss STEM (the program at USNA for middle and high school students), create a new thread -- and keep it civil.

Also, let's try not to turn every single thread (regardless of topic) into a debate about minority admissions. This subject has been hashed and rehashed numerous times on this forum. If there is an explicit question on the subject, fine. But bringing it up again in response to almost every admissions question really is not helpful to those who frequent this site.

Thank you.

Your friendly mod.
