Hi I am a High school applicant for the class of 2025 and over the last month or so I have been leaning about the Coast Guard Academy and I have a couple questions.

- is there a timeline I should be following for the application process? Any dates that you would recommend I complete different things before? If I could get what people think for both EA and Regular it would be really helpful.

- I saw that about half of the class attends AIM, could not having applied or attended be a major setback or issue with my application?

- chances are really high that I won't be able to take my ACT because I can not even go back to school this upcoming semester, other than writing the letter about why I may not be able to take it, is there something you would recommend doing about test scores?

- I do not really know how to word this properly but I know that at the Naval Academy you do your first two year and then you commit to the Navy is it the same at Coast Guard Academy?

To answer your last question first. I believe all service academies follow the same principle in that you can leave after your second year without owing them anything for your tuition and board etc. If you leave after this period then the academy can ask for you to pay for your time at the academy.

Yes many of the class appointees historically have attended AIM. As this was virtual this year I think it is less of an issue than it would have been; and even then many people have won appointments without ever having attended AIM.

My advice is that you find out who you Admissions Officer is at the academy (depends in which state you live) and make contact with them. They can give advice on the lack of ACT etc. Information regarding timing for applications is available on the website. Applications are open now and will close at the beginning of January.

Thank You !!

Has there been any word on when the CCEB will start reviewing this year?

Definitely make contact with your Admissions Counselor. Visit if at all possible. They should know who you are when you apply. Apply EA. It's one more chance that they review your application. If you're any kind of athlete, try to be recruited. Even if you would be a bench warmer, they have a point system that they forward to admissions that could help.

Hello, I attended AIM and during it they stressed on not submitting EA unless you are 100% sure that it is the best application that you can submit.

Jjrrugg is absolutely correct. Remember you can add things like making Eagle Scout etc to your application before it is reviewed.

My DS didn't apply EA because he was waiting to earn his Quartermaster Rank (like Eagle Scout in Sea Scouts, but much rarer) They took another Sea Scout who didn't make QM in EA and my son got waitlisted. Granted, it's very hard to compare and maybe the other SeaScout was a better athlete/student/whatever, but I think he would've been admitted if he applied EA and told them later on about earning QM. (not bitter, he's at USNA and loving it)
