I'd appreciate any advice or tips on the letter from the candiate to request to transfer a 3year AROTC scholarship. Anything specific I should mention? Juts looking for some additionl insight. The prospective transfer is from a school in Colorado to one in Massachusetts with a tuition difference of less then $2,000

I would keep it simple, as follows. One sentence requesting the transfer from School C to School M and the second indicating that a copy of the acceptance letter from School M is attached. At least that worked for my son.

You don't know whether $2,000 is a lot or a little to the person(s) who would review the request.

BY the way, have you been in touch with the ROO at School M?

Thanks for the reply! I have been in contact with the school that I am trying to transfer too. This is probably a dumb question, but I should accept the scholarship to the Colorado school (i.e. send in the paperwork confirming acceptance) right?

Not a dumb question. You should accept the scholarship offer to the Colorado school as soon as possible and submit your acceptance with your transfer request.

And congratulations on the scholarship offer.

Personally, I'd also include why you would like CC to transfer your scholarship - it just helps justify your request even more. (ie: the degree program better at Mass than Co? you like that Battalion better? etc etc) Now, you don't have to write a 10 page dissertation, but brief and to the point.

This is what I did - and it worked for me. Although keep in mind things change year group to year group, so don't base CC's magical decision making process based off my own. You will find, as you advance through ROTC, that with budgets dwindling CC will make changes to accommodate budget changes.

Best of luck!

I kept mine short and to the point and it came out to about a half of a page. I just summed up why I wanted to go to the other school. There's not much more you can do. Does anyone know how/when we will hear back from cadet command about the status of the request?

Only include a reason if there is a good one. If you tell them you want to transfer because that is where your girlfriend got accepted that's probably not a good thing, but if you didn't get in to the college you got the offer to, or if there is a degree program you'd like to pursue at your school of choice definitely mention that.

+1

Sorry - should have been a bit more clearer on that.

Texan, if your Colorado school is CU Boulder I would advise you to think long and hard about it first! CU boulder is a recent Macarthur award winner and is by DS account an awesome unit. The unit is large enough to have great resources but not too large that you get lost in it. Ft. Carson is about 60 miles away and offers the unit increadable training oppurtunities. Spring FTX this weekend using helos.....Need I say more?? Several oppurtunities to attend CULP and AA and AB schools as well. In addition to the unit the school is very well regarded and is in one of the most beautiful settings you can imagine. Best of luck. :thumb:

Several days ago my son sent his school transfer request by e-mail to usarmy.knox.usacc.mbx.train2lead@mail.mil but has not received any type of confirmation that the request was received. Is this the correct address to send the request??
USA123,

That is the correct address. My son did not receive a confirmation either, so he sent another requesting confirmation of receipt. Still no reply. So he forwarded that chain of emails to a specific person who had confirmed receipt of his scholarship acceptance back in February. She replied almost immediately confirming.

I can PM you the address if you need it - let me know.

You could also email your POC.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Still never received a reply so are hopeful everything is on track.

USA123,

There was a number posted on another thread that someone said worked - clarkson mentioned that it was on an "old" webpage, but apparently someone used it recently to contact CC.

I just checked my portal and only my winner letter was uploaded. Not the signed one that I had mailed in with my transfer request. This is after I emailed CC asking if they had gotten my snail mail request. Did this happen to anyone else?

Thanks

Good suggestion to check the website. The transfer request was inputted so he is good to go. Check the tab called 'File upload'.

My son had a successful transfer request in 2012. The only "problem" that came up is that I had to pay registration fee for two schools until he rec'd an answer from AROTC. It was $750 well spent. He wrote a simple request, I don't think he gave any specific reasons. The army did save same money as the other school was less expensive. Good Luck.
