TN Nominations?

Hello everyone,

I spoke with Alexander's office this morning and she said that decisions and notifications went out on Thursday (the 23rd). We did get the notification in the mail from that office this afternoon. She also said that they normally do not "double nominate", thus, those like our daughter who already had an MOC nomination from a Congressman were out of the pool. Per the email:

"Some of the Congressmen's offices submitted their nominations very early before our and Senator Corker’s interview and panel process was completed. The academy does not mind multiple nominations; however, we have so many candidates throughout the state who apply to the two senators; that we coordinate with the congressmen to try to prevent doubling up as much as possible."

Just thought I would go ahead and update everyone with the information I have. I wish everyone the very best of luck and sincerely hope TN is very well represented at ALL of the Academies!

It's safe to say most if not all candidates who were competitive at the state level would get a representatives nom. I can understand not nominating the other senators billet but not the MOCs

My son in district 8 just got a letter today from Senator Alexander that said,"In screening your application, I was informed that you already had a nomination from another source. To give other qualified applicants from Tennessee an opportunity to compete for the limited number of appointments an effort is made to avoid duplication nomination; therefore, I am unable to nominate you."
I guess TN kids won't get multiples like some other states. We are prayerfully thankful he got one of them, although he hasn't been notified by that source yet. And I'd like to add that I know how frustrating this wait has been for all, and I do wish everyone luck on this hurdle. My son was so impressed with all the candidates he talked to at the interviews. All these kids will do great things!

My son got the same letter from Senator Alexander today. Nothing from Corker or his MOC. I suppose it's good news but sure would like to know!

Anyone hear from corker? I'm getting worried. Also, anyone get an appointment, some started coming out.

It was Corker's office that said they wouldn't have anything out until next week, of course, now that we know that TN won't dually nominate it is a moot point for us. I wish you luck!!

It is possible that you got one from corker and that's why Alexander didn't double nominate. I know someone who got an MOC nom and senator nom. I'm not sure.

I hadn't considered that because the letter we received from Alexander's office was identical to the one that the others on here received and it states:

"In screening your application, I was informed that you already had a nomination from another source. I suppose anything is possible. 'aufranktown' posted that her son did receive one from Blackburn (Rep)& Alexander... so I'm not sure, but we are assuming that the nomination they are referring to in our letter is the one our daughter received from her Congressman. I'm not sure of what the letters that went out to others stated, but ours was identical to the ones referenced on this thread by 'Mom529' & 'tntele'.

I'm sorry, wish I could tell you more....this is certainly a rather nerve-wracking process, however, our pursuit of virtuous patience must continue....

Nomination deadline is tomorrow expect corkers nominations very soon!

Quick update... per Corker's office:

"Although there is no impediment to duplicate nominations, we coordinate with the Representative office and Senator Alexander to avoid duplicates as much as possible. We do that to give a nomination opportunities to as many Tennesseans as possible. We sometimes do duplicate, but we really try not to.

Our process has finally finished up and the letters to all candidates will go out in the mail next week."

Ah that's good to hear. Crossed fingers. Remember they sometimes double nominate

I don't understand why they don't do it though at the district level, the quality of candidates would be lower. It's like filling a bucket with 20$ bills and 5$ bills telling 11 people to grab one. What's left is going to be the 5s. Sure though those who get the double nomination will be high quality.

Well... as long as she has 1 nomination she has a ticket to the dance...
And thinking about it, if every kid did what they were supposed to do and applied for all 3 (rep plus 2 senators) then I'd say its a level playing field.... it could be said that the Senators pick up the 20 kids that were left over and did not get a nom from their rep... after all, they tend to make their choices as late as possible.... those bucket of money theories can go both ways.
I do, however, get your point and in a highly competitive district I understand the urgency. Perhaps this is how they balance out those highly competitive districts so that qualified kids that could not fit on a Rep slate still have a chance.
I believe every kid that is going through this process is well above a $5- And I'm not convinced that the gap between the candidates is that vast. They are all leaders who are meeting incredibly difficult standards to get in.... and the nominating sources, nor the quantity will have anything to do with how successful an appointee will be once they are in. As a country we are blessed that these young men and women want to serve.
At the end of the day our daughter has surpassed by a hundred fold what we ever did at her age; shes done all she can do and has put it in God's hands... she will land where she is meant to be.

Amen, USAFA2019HopefulMom! It is now out of their control. We all have to accept that these wonderful children WILL ALL bloom where they are planted.

I believe most if not all applicants will have bright futures. I'm sure, as one I the interviewers told me, that thee are a few 'dud' candidates that just apply for the sake of applying.
All the candidates I met where wonderful. All had their head in the right place. It's really saddening how limited slots are available as I'm sure every candidate could succeed at the academy if they tried. I guess if a candidate is really really good then they will get picked up by the NWL.

Anyone see a nomination from corker on your file? Just curious.

I messed this up the other day. I said my son had a nom from TN61 on his portal who I assumed was Alexander. Got the Alexander letter which stated he did not get one. Today we received a nomination letter from Corker. The nom has been on his portal since last Friday. Letter is dated 1/29.
