To wait for ACT testing for preliminary application or no?

Hello, been lurking around here before but made an account just now. I am applying for class of 2028, and in the preliminary application I noticed that the standardized testing is optional. I already have ACT tests scheduled in the summer, so I am wondering if I should wait for the ACT tests to be completed so I can put the score into the preliminary application or to just submit the preliminary without standardized testing scores. Also in the preliminary application it says that standardized scores can be added later, does this mean it can be added after submitting the preliminary application? Thanks.

Submit preliminary without test scores. You will have until 31 January 2024 to submit all final/updated ACT/SAT scores to your application. Take often if not above 31/1400. Competition is great.

With respect to ACT / SAT scores, early and often... USAFA super scores, so it never hurts to take them multiple times. Also, take both the SAT and ACT. Although they are both standardized tests, they have different approaches, and, often, one test will be "easier" than others. A good prep course is invaluable.

While looking at preliminary items, start prepping for the CFA, now. It is an issue every year, and it is the one thing that candidates have complete control over. Take a practice CFA now, see where you stand, and what the weak areas are, so you can prep for the real one 6 months from now.

Look at all of your nominating sources. Congressional, Senatorial, and VP are for everyone. Presidential, AFROTC, ROTC, etc for those eligible. If you don't know what these are, start researching now. You'll want to organize your Leadership. Athletics. Academics for the application. Be thorough starting in 9th grade.

Look at the DoDMERB section of this forum. Read everything you can. Make accurate statements with respect to health diagnosis (don't over or under-diagnosis, just the facts, not what your neighbors, cousin's friend said you had).

Good luck!

I presume that I should submit the preliminary application early so I can get started on nominations immediately right after? And thanks for the fast responses.

Each source will have a window. I am sure none are open yet, but locate all of the websites, review everything, be ready on day one.

The sooner your submit your pre candidate questionnaire (which is what I’m guessing you mean by preliminary application) the sooner your deadline for the candidate kit/needed materials will be. Take a practice CFA and see if you’re in a reasonable standing before submitting the PCQ so you can have more time for the CFA if need be. Also the nomination applications and the regular USAFA applications have nothing connected. You can look at your nominations sources and see if their application windows have opened and complete them even before you submit your PCQ.

Also I should probably mention while I am saying delay the PCQ if you really need to for your CFA, be sure to complete it and your candidate kit within reasonable time frames of one another otherwise LORs might be a bit rough to submit for those you ask.
