Too late to apply?

Every state and every MOC is different and they of course vary from year to year depending on the applicant pool.

Also, friendly reminder there are 5 service academies. Not 3. The big 3 tend to get all of the attention but the other two are incredible in their own right and are often under researched and sought after.

DS ended up with multiple noms during his cycle which he was not expecting. Each senator said they were interviewing 80ish candidates in person. Local MOC rep did over 35 interviews. These can change from year to year and MOC to MOC.

That’s amazing. You must be one proud male parental unit..👀
Actually, it is my wife's side of the family who have/are serving our country. When my son first mentioned attending a SA, I have to admit I didn't like it. It was unfamiliar territory for me and not what I envisioned for him. I had to do a lot of personal soul searching during this time. I have to say this forum was very helpful and encouraging for me. I learned a lot and it has helped me not to be proud of just my son, but of all the men and women who have/are serving our country. So thank you to all the posters out there. In the proud moments and in the tough moments.

I appreciate this note about your change in perspective.

It always grates on me a bit when parents, whom I expect to be protective of their children, are perfectly fine with letting other people’s children take a path of service that could lead to going into harm’s way, but emphatically do not want their own children to consider it, perhaps even see it as some “lesser” path.

Again, I appreciate the shift in your appreciation of those who choose this path. Thank you.

There are some districts out there where applications are down and efforts are being made to offer qualified candidates as many opportunities as possible.

In one of the congressional districts I cover, we historically average 12-15 USAFA applicants each year. This year they had 3 for USAFA.

It will be interesting to see the application numbers that are published for the C/O 2027 right after I-Day
My DS got his congressional nomination for USAFA but forgot to asked how many applicants are there for USMA and USNA. He was told there’s not that many for USAFA. So is there a way of finding out how many applications each MOC/Senate have ?

Unless you ask them, there is no way to know.

How odd that the member of congress would give a nomination for an academy that he is not applying to! I guess this person did not have other people vying for a nomination to USAFA.

They have rolling deadlines so he can start his application and see what deadline they give him. He will have to be diligent to fill out the requirements in a timely manner. And hopefully he can have his teachers fill out their recommendations before the holidays. Good luck to him!
My son got nominations for academies he did not apply to last year. 🤷‍♀️ He's at USAFA now!
