Hi,

I am a future AROTC cadet. I have been accepted into the program for next semester, but recently I have been wondering if I still have time to try and get into an SA. I'm not from a military family, and my parents in some ways disapprove of my wanting to serve, so I didn't even know about the academies until enrolling in ROTC.

I have a somewhat unique situation in that I graduated high school and began college at 16. Because of that, for ROTC I am taking the two year option as I only have two years left for my degree and I will have to contract fall of 2017. Therefore, it seems to me, that the only time I would be able to gain acceptance to an SA would be during this application period (if there is still time?). Unfortunately, being homeschooled I have no ECs. I do have a 4.0 high school GPA, 32 ACT, and a 3.9+ college GPA after 2 years.

I'm not really asking for a "chance me," I was just wondering if anyone had any advice as to if I would be able to pursue acceptance to an SA without forfeiting my ability to contract with ROTC. Also, I do realize I would still have to attend the SA for four years and I would be fine with that.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm really in need of some advice, not being from a military family and starting quite late.

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I would be interested in USMA and USAFA, so I thought this would be a neutral place to post.

Thanks.

At this point, I would say that it depends where you live. In order to go to an SA, you need a nomination from the VP, Congressman, or Senator. The deadline to apply for many, if not all, of these applications has passed in most states. My advice would be to look online at your Congressional Rep's website and see if the deadline has passed. Unfortunately if it has, there's not a possibility to attend any SA except USCGA, which does not require nominations. You can also attempt to apply to USMA or USAFA nevertheless and see if you get an acceptance to a prep school, which also don't require nominations. It is very late in the game so chances are slim, but if it is truly what you want then don't take no for an answer; find a way in. You can always do another year of AROTC at a civilian college and then reapply for an SA next year. Best of luck to you and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you. I did not know prep schools did not require a nomination.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
