Top 5 Military or War theme movies/series in the past 30 years.

No kidding. When I saw the tread title, I thought; The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Battle of the Bulge, Kelly's Heroes, etc.

Heck, those are all at least double the limit. :(

agree on Kelly Heroes and Dirty Dozen and add Where Eagels Dare along with Sahara as mentioned before

Any "All Quiet On The Western Front" then "Paths of Glory" "Breaker Morant"' "Zulu" (Rorke's Drift). Getting older is better than the alternative.:) "Men of Harlich"

Lot’s of movies from before June 20, 1992. I can certainly relate. Years didn’t last as long then as they do now.

Catch 22 would fall in that category

There isn’t a bad movie of the lot that I’ve actually seen, but I would add several with an Eastern Focus:

Enemy at the Gate

Kanal

Katyn

Favorite scene from an obscure movie:

Many good ones already mentioned.

The Best Years of Our Lives. (A universal film about combatants adjusting to postwar life.)
The Bridge at Toko-Ri.
The Bridge on the River Kwai.
The Unknown Soldier.
The Battle of Britain.
Galipolli.

There is only one combat related film I am aware of so intense so realistic there were articles in the papers telling combat vets to be careful about seeing the film. And for good reason.

Some movie theaters had mental health vol s available to help those customers overcome. There were some 911 calls for those watching.

The vet crisis centers saw lots of calls and visits after its release.

One therapist used the movie as a group watch for a few dozen very troubled combat vets. lots of hugging and crying after.

The first 30 mins of that movie hit me like a brick. I felt I was back in the jungle. That movie was one gut wrenching experience.

Platoon

Still thinking. We had a great thread on this a few years ago.

Das Boot for sure.
Band of Brothers

I really enjoyed “Greyhound” with Tom Hanks on AppleTV for the action and leadership. Not a complicated plot. Kill or be killed.
Greyhound was surprisingly good and captured a lot of little shipboard details well. Strong recommendation @Capt MJ

During NROTC our first XO was a Marine and taught a for-fun seminar using episodes from Band of Brothers as instructional tools. I still carry those lessons with me.

They Shall Not Grow Old
Unbroken
Master and Commander
Inglourious Basterds
Enemy at the Gates
