I’m a senior in high school and I’m currently working on my applications. I’m stuck at what topic to write about for the writing samples. They’re basically asking about our life experiences and how they shaped us today.
To be blunt, I was sexually assaulted a few years ago and I have barely told anyone about it. However, since then, I am healing and I have joined multiple clubs/programs that educate and prevent sexual assault, and I am planning on continuing my advocacy against sexual assault at USAFA (if accepted). Would it be a good idea to tell them this in my essay, even though there are no official records of my assault? Would I be DQd because of possible underlying mental issues? Would the academy require that I see a therapist for an evaluation, and in doing so, would I have to tell my parents?

First, I'm sorry this happened to you.

I am sorry I didn't reply sooner; had I seen your question I would have.

I would not write about this topic. You're gut is correct, it might raise more flags than it's worth.
